Coming from classic , it could have been worse.
But that's worth $189 all day long.
Too bad you didn't get more of them when they were cheaper.....
but you are here now and that's what counts!

      They're good rifles.

      Tell me more.
How much elevation adjustment does it give you?
Currently on the rifles I had to raise the front sight on , I just slipped over a piece of tubing from 12ga wire.
But of course that makes the front sight very wide............

Congratulations, OP. You did just fine.

I love my Mosin. My first C&R purchase. Since then I have been hooked in old firearms.

It's nice, it looks as if the receiver has the Imperial eagle so most likely a Soviet refurb of a dragoon or a Cossack rifle. Last year they had that marking style on the barrel with the Cyrillic script and the old Izzy logo (arrow coming out of top of bow).

The Soviets where trying to standardize all 91's to the 91/30 pattern at that time. The receiver could be very old, even pre-1900.

            Excellent for a first mosin!

Haha! I had some 22's to shoot with my son and a friend bought a Big 5 Mosin. I got one right away (after a 10 day waiting period) for $89 bucks. I took it to the range. Loaded it. Fired at a Steel at 200 yards and it went "THWACK".

                Gateway drug for sure!

Mosin ammo used to be plentiful and dirt cheap. Not so much anymore but the Mosin is still the C&R starter kit of choice for many collectors. Probably the most accessible, fun C&R rifle you can buy and collect.

Wow, a "turn in" you say? It's a bit rough, but I would've kept it for the crest and hex

Yup, I've only been in this game for a few yrs and I remember my buddy sayding "If you pay $125 for a Mosin, you got had." Not that way anymore

Looks like you got a good find, my friend. Remember, you don't have a Mosin problem, everyone else does

He mentioned sending me pics, but he's pretty busy and I haven't bugged him. The only reason I even know that it's used is because I offered to send a sight to him for one of the Russian Mosins, since the rifles are pretty important to the family. He thanked me and told me that his daughter has one already. I don't know where she got it -- I've shipped a few to Alaska over the years, though, so it's conceivable that that one of the orders was for them. (A couple were above the Arctic Circle.)

He's a very polite guy and one I'd sit down with for a beer or coffee.

                        Regards,
