Thanks! Even thought this was the least expensive C&R rifle out of my collection, I really like it. Something cool about them despite many people holding their nose to them.

No one around here holds their noses to them. Maybe some indoor range wannabe suburban commandos do. We love Mosins around these parts.

I have 4. With proper hand loads they can be surprisingly accurate. You didn't get the deal of the century but you didn't get hosed. That's the going rate nowadays. The $129 91/30 days at big 5 are unfortunately, gone.

Yeah that's how I feel. I know I'm late to the inexpensive Mosin game. I ended up going for one of these instead of a WWII era refurb. I do like the battle scars on this one.

It's in a nice pre-war/early war stock set too.

                Welcome to club!
I got my first 91/30 from big 5 when they were $49, then they want to $79 and I thought it was too much. They hit $129 and I thought I was overpaying but it was the markings I wanted and I had a gift card... I have had as many as 12, but now I think 8... If I could find them locally for $200 I'd still be buying them!
You may be late to the game, but they still are an amazing value.

Edit: holy heck, Classic wants $259 for a Mosin? Well, still a deal I guess - they aren't making any more of them!

I remember those deals as it wasn't long ago. I bought 2 91/30's for $100 each at Big 5 and was able to dig through numerous boxes to get the ones I wanted.

I thought I struck gold with a GREAT looking pre-war Tula. I took it home and it sat in my safe for months fill of cosmo. When I finally got around to stripping and cleaning it, the entire undercarriage beneath the stock was rusted and pitted beyond what I would feel comfortable shooting.

It is always worth a little more money if you can personally inspect the specific rifle you are buying, but even that is no guarantee.

Some even make their livings with them. I know there's a show about Alaska where a family uses 'em to hunt. I don't watch the show but have talked to the father -- his daughter's M38 is fitted with one of my sights.

                            They're good rifles.
