Assuming you are a resident of California and your are buying it using your 03 FFL then you are required to register it with the DOJ. I bought one of these and thought it should be easy but the DOJ wanted to make sure it did not have a detachable mag so they requested a pic. My registration was held up until I could provide proof.

If you are purchasing through an 01 FFL (dealer) then disregard.

He shouldn't have to do that. It's going through an FFL and being DROSd. I've bought 4 from out of state, one is in Kali jail as we speak. PAX

And just so the OP is clear, there is no law, proposed law or PC that allows the CADOJ to hold up registering your C&R rifle by NOT including photographs of it with the registration and by law, they are not allowed to require you to submit any photographs of your rifle. But like everything else in this state, Kamala's brown shirts at the CADOJ do whatever the hell they want without recourse or accountability. Hypothetically, most C&R buyers comply with their unlawful, unconstitutional demands on this because it is the only way to get your rifle registered (for future confiscation) but, hypothetically, if a person were to adhere to the letter of the law, they could fill out the form, send it in with their check and tell the CADOJ to pound sand if they demand photos since the person had hypothetically obeyed the law 100%. Hypothetically, the brown shirts have hundreds of laws and constantly bust and disarm citizens all of the time on a technicality so hypothetically, we should hold them to the exact same standard, if they want to do something to increase their tyrannical efficiency, they should have to lobby with the legislators of this state to make a law. If it is the law, we law abiding citizens would hypothetically obey it, but it is not the law so hypothetically, why should be obey them, other than they are hypothetically victimizing us through intimidation and extortion? One could hypothetically respond to the photo request with a request for the applicable PC that makes this a legal requirement. But then the brown shirts could hypothetically knock down ones door, shoot one's dog, terrorize ones family and confiscate all of one's guns and throw one in jail. Even though one hadn't broken any laws. There may have hypothetically been one FFL07/SOT02 who used to participate in this forum who hypothetically had exactly this happen to them, although this FFL didn't tell the DOJ to pound sand, this FFL hypothetically just ignored the request or it was overlooked. The hypothetical moral of the story is, don't eff with the CADOJ, they are beyond the law and do whatever they like to victimize law abiding California citizens. Hypothetically, of course.

That may or may not happen. I posted a thread when that exact thing happened to me. Other SKS rifles purchased before and since were registered with no photos. It is indicative of the random and confusing manner in which the DOJ deals with C&R holders.

This. I'm still in the process of getting the 003 so I will be going through a FFL & the DROS.

Pulled the trigger on buying the SKS. (Pun intended) Will post pictures after I pick the rifle up on the 19th.

These are from the same batch of Chinese from I think Albania or Bulgaria that sat in a warehouse there for a couple of decades, which is how they were allowed by the ATF to be imported, the rifles "became" eastern European by virtue of the sitting for decades in the warehouse. Many of us bought them at the time they became available about 2-3 years ago. Turners sold a ton of them, I think I bought half a dozen from Classic. J&G overpaid on their batch and tried to sell them in vain for $499.00 for years with few takers. Now they have knocked them back down to where they should have been, in the $299.00 to $329.00 area, but they are losing money on every one of them. There may be some Sino Soviets, Ghost SKS and just regular triangle 26 SKS. Most are pretty worn, with barrels ranging from mirror to a pitted mess. Same with the wood, some had trench art, some looked very nice and some looked like they had been buried in a swamp. I inspected over a dozen at two Turners but ended up not buying any from them because everyone that I looked at had major stock cracks and damage and pitted barrels and receivers. The batch I bought from Classic were decent with a lot of wear but no rust and minimal stock cracks, if any. These SKS are all over the map so you take your chances as far as condition. J&G is usually fair with grading though but expect your J&G SKS to have a lot of "character".

Yeah I remember seeing the Turner's ads, never jumped on one back then. Shoulda, woulda, coulda. I'll probably end up rolling the dice on J&G

I have bought several semi-auto pistols from SOG over the years. Could never figure out why they won't sell semi-auto C&R rifles to California but they will sell us semi-auto C&R pistols?

Does a c&r pistol have to also be on the CA approved handgun list?
