The M48 is a sturdily built and fun to shoot rifle. A mandatory part of any Mauser collection. My M48's are the two bottom rifles.

Wow Bobby, those two M48s have really beautiful stocks, nice scores. What's your favorite desert plinking ammo for those rifles?

Damn I've got one of these I had since I was 18.
Shot it twice, cleaned it and into the safe it went.
Surprised how much they go for.

Priorities man! Just buy a stripped lower now and get the rest of the parts later. The M48s won't be around for too long but the AR parts are always easily available.

Eh, I already have a nice byf K98, my brother has an all matching non-import marked M48, I'm set in the mauser department for now However, that doesn't mean I won't be tempted by a good deal... I just have to hesitate on pulling out my card long enough until I can talk myself down!

Same here. They are out there, just need to check the stock they have at each store. Pretty sure the Davis Big 5 still has some.

Thanks Cap. I sold my beater / shooter M48's when I picked up those two and I haven't shot them yet. The Yugo 24/52-C and VZ-24 in the picture are my two desert shooters. For the desert it is usually Turkish or Yugo surplus. I horde the non-mag brass ammo for places like Burro Canyon.

Just got around to cleaning the old cosmo during new years weekend and have not shot it yet.

Well, looks like I'll have to check in locally again. When I got mine last year it was their fist batch of any milsurp for quite some time and they were all "in the white," definitely not unissued condition. I don't think I've even glanced at the gun rack the few times I've been in since.

It's a toss up although the 24/47s seem to be in shorter supply, especially in the almost new condition that M48s are sometimes available in. I'd get both! It's not like either is going to break your wallet.

In the picture I posted above, the two rifles directly above the M48's are both Yugo 24/47's. They are very similar to the M48's, but the M48 was a ground up design, whereas the 24/47 is modernized version of the older M24 Yugo. Actual M24's are pretty rare...

To add yet another collector conundrum to the discussion, 24/47's can be found with straight bolts or bent bolts. Both are correct. There is one of each in the picture.
