Have been thinking about this lately. Most all of my Garands came from private collections and I've always been reluctant to buy any firearm sight-unseen, including CMP. But knowing the end of supply is near I might take the plunge anyway. Though I would love to accomplish that by visiting one of their facilities, pick one out, then ship it to my FFL. My brother did this and he handpicked an incredibly sweet, low muzzle/throat erosion wear numbered H&R.

From what I understand, the CMP stores are pretty thin on selection these days. You're better off ordering one and including a post it note with your request (no guarantees they will fulfill your request though).

There are plenty of special grade, and various grades of m1ds on the south store floor lately, fwiw.
