    WW2 German Luger

May have a line on one brought back to the US decades ago by a friend's uncle's father. I haven't seen any pictures yet but it has the original holster with it. Does anyone know how/where to check all the serial numbers and stuff? I'm not interested in flipping it but I'd like to know what I'm getting if I'm able to acquire it It'll be my first C&R piece.

Lugers have the last two numbers of the serial number on nearly every part. The barrel is also numbered to the gun. If the holster is an original WWII piece it is worth a decent amount all by itself. Other than that, I don't really know what else to tell you.

Lugers are interesting pistols and a cool piece of shooting history.

Be sure to post a thread with pictures when you get possession of it.

It would probably be easier to post some detailed pictures of it, than trying to learn everything before taking a look at it, you will always miss something and quite possibly a bunch of things.

I collect Military Arms and enjoy shooting in local matches. I also collect older Lever Actions, especially those chambered in odd/old cartridges. If you have a nice old Winchester or Marlin in 25-20, 32-40, 38-55, 40-60, 45-70, etc etc, please PM me and we can work out a deal.

Condition is very important in Luger collecting. If one main part is a mismatch number it could be the difference of $1500 pistol to $750 pistol. Rust is also a big cut in price. If you can get pictures and post them then you will get a good estimate.

Finish too- if it's been buffed, reblued, chromed etc value plummets. Looking forward to seeing pics and hearing more about it!

                  Yes you can have 2 C&R 03 FFL's; 1 in California and 1 in a different state.

Grips are normally numbered to the pistol, last two digits.

Why don't you put your friend in contact with us so he can get the full value of this family heirloom gun?

Buy the gun, not the story...

It cannot be considered a true "bring back" without having the associated correct papers...Remember these guns were sold as surplus by the tens of thousands back in the 50's and 60's...

Don't get me wrong, it could be a real nice piece, but be careful relying on any story...

I've seen more than a few guns, which were claimed to be "bring backs"... However when I checked them I found importer markings indicating they were post 1986 imports...

So, an update to this - I may be getting this for free . But, I need to figure out what I would need to do to have it mailed/shipped/transferred? from Florida to the SF bay area. Aren't C&R pieces, especially ones this old, good to just send through mail direct to a person? Or does it still need to be shipped to an FFL? C&R FFL? Fees? Does it have to be FFL > FFL or can it be from Person in FL > FFL in CA > Me?
