I got an M1. Love it. But I heard Chinese guys in Korea getting shot by them and the rounds bounced right off they thick clothing.

That's basically an old wives tale, there's a box o truth video on it.

        3. Form matters. Lean into it. Make sure the rifle is firmly against your shoulder. All those fundamentals make a big difference when the recoil gets heftier.

Once you slip up and the gun jumps and hits your shoulder it'll be tender and really you might as well stop for the day and switch to handgun or a lighter rifle. It's hard to learn if it hurts to shoot. See how many rounds you can go before that happens. I used to regularly shoot about 80 rounds per session out of my Mosin.

Just bought one of these and it's fantastic. It's easy on and off so the self conscious don't need to wander the range wearing it. I spent the entire morning shooting my K31, Swedish M38, and M1917 Eddystone wearing the recoil shield and a t-shirt. Not even a bruise afterwards. I highly recommend

+1 I use the Mag Plus recoil pad too and it makes a day at the range much more enjoyable for me. I also don't have to worry about buying different sized recoil pads for my rifles.

Go ahead and start reloading; you'll be glad you did.

People don't like to be meddled with. We tell them what to do, what to think, don't run, don't walk. We're in their homes and in their heads and we haven't the right. We're meddlesome.

I find the proper shooting form to be the most important aspect in reducing shoulder injury. First off, if appleseed is around your neighborhood, make time to attend. Even if you think you are a pro, i bet you can still learn and solidify many aspects of your shooting form.

I find most recoil is due to the rifle not closely placed to the body. Whenever there's space between the buttstock and your shoulder, you will feel recoil. The idea is to welt the buttstock to your shoulder at the right place, so when recoil kicks, your whole body rocks instead of only the buttstock hits your shoulder squarely. I actually like pulling the rifle as tightly as possible into my shoulder, and i do a count to review my shooting stance between each shot. It helps remind me how to mitigate recoil.

Sounds like you need to hit the gym and do some Arnolds.

The M1 carbine is a questionable man stopper, but the M1 Garand (30.06) is extremely deadly.
Doped up Chinese at distance with thick clothing? Yea, I wouldn't want a carbine either. I doubt that the round would bounce off, but not a lot of knock down power either.

Reloading your own lighter loads is the best way to go. I had my daughter shooting my 1903 Springfield when she was 8 years old. She loved the light loads. Less wear and tear on the weapon, much less recoil, cheaper ammo equals more ammo to shoot. A win win win situation. You can also customize your reloads to the weapon to get the best accuracy. Reloading equipment and supplies are not that expensive, and I get alot of satisfaction knowing I loaded the ammo I shoot. Friends have even told me my reloads are more accurate than some factory ammo they had tried.

From a shooting enjoyment perspective, the Archangel stock for my Mosin was the best upgrade I've ever done to any gun, ever. Hands down. I can shoot it all day, and then some. Purists will hate you for it, but it's reversible, and the stock mine replaced was awful anyway.

I'm going to get the undershirt pad thing. It'll save my shoulder and make me look a little buff too. Yeah regarding the M1 carbine, there was a report of a guy having to be shot 6 times until he went down. We should do an experiment to see if this is true . Any volunteers?
