Calguns COE help
I started a thread asking for help on the COE process. As usual ... The Calguns community quickly came to aid me in this process.
Here is the Livescan Help! thread.Comment

That was an excellent write up.No, it would be easier to go to a website that had better instructions. I did. The first page on calguns sticky is filled with jargon about double sided forms. 2nd page is all about fonts? A locked stickey with a how to would be nice.
OP check this out.
Pretty sure calguns sticky has "room for improvement"
FYI, this link: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/curios-relics.html is cited at several locations on the web but it seems whatever was there at some point is no longer. It is redirecting here: https://www.atf.gov/questions-and-answers/firearms-qas Which from a quick glance seems next to useless for our discussions here.Stand up and be counted, or lay down and be mounted... -Mac

If I didn't drive far sometimes to find the gun I wanted I wouldn't bother with it. You almost don't save any money getting one other than the gas to go back out to the FFL to pick up your gun after waiting 10 days. 90% of my guns were obtained via PPT and it's still $19 for state fee. I used to only pay $30 which isn't much more and after the FFL + COE you're over $100 invested so you gotta get like 10 guns before you're out of the hole.
...I swore not to do math today and I almost made itComment

My FFL03/COE paid itself off very quickly. It's also worth mentioning you can get FFL discounts at select dealers.
It's a wonderful erm...."freedom" to purchase C&R guns from places like the AZ gun show etc.
It is false economy however, you may think you save on transfer fees, but you spend more money buying more guns.
I'm not complaining at all

That's true for cash flow, but for net worth the guns are still worth what you paid for them, and the transfer fee is just money down a rathole. I've never sold a gun for less than I paid (some of that's inflation, but still).Comment

You are absolutely correct, I was referring to cash flow. The transfer fees narrow or completely negate any kind of "deal" you may find.C&R nut.Comment

I agree, our sticky is a mess, outdated and convoluted. I've started through it a couple times but aborted, frustrated. The OP showing up and asking for a simple answer to a simple question is not out of line, no need to hassle him, even if he did miss our sticky.
Maybe somebody, as a service to our community, can gather the info and type up a quick post, submit it to a mod to update our 900 post sticky in the 1st post.'The greatest fine art of the future will be the making of a comfortable living from a small piece of land.'
