I know that I have posted a complete process on how to do the COE. In California ... the Type-03 C&R FFL license is utterly useless unless you have a COE.
Not completely useless, if you live close enough or regularly travel to a free state.

      Calguns COE help

I started a thread asking for help on the COE process. As usual ... The Calguns community quickly came to aid me in this process.

Here is the Livescan Help! thread.

        OP check this out.

Pretty sure calguns sticky has "room for improvement"
That was an excellent write up.

FYI, this link: http://www.atf.gov/firearms/faq/curios-relics.html is cited at several locations on the web but it seems whatever was there at some point is no longer. It is redirecting here: https://www.atf.gov/questions-and-answers/firearms-qas Which from a quick glance seems next to useless for our discussions here.

It sounds really confusing on the face of it, but it's actually pretty simple, and if you mess it up they just send it back with a letter saying "You forgot to fill on your phone number" or whatever and you try again.

If I didn't drive far sometimes to find the gun I wanted I wouldn't bother with it. You almost don't save any money getting one other than the gas to go back out to the FFL to pick up your gun after waiting 10 days. 90% of my guns were obtained via PPT and it's still $19 for state fee. I used to only pay $30 which isn't much more and after the FFL + COE you're over $100 invested so you gotta get like 10 guns before you're out of the hole.

...I swore not to do math today and I almost made it

              That hasn't been a problem.

It depends on how you get your guns. If you even very occasionally pay a transfer fee the math changes dramatically.

I use my ffl for the sometimes good deals I get at grafs. Usually get some people together and place a big order. I have already gotten back that money in reloading equip. Several times over.

Not a bigger safe. Just more safes.

My FFL03/COE paid itself off very quickly. It's also worth mentioning you can get FFL discounts at select dealers.

It's a wonderful erm...."freedom" to purchase C&R guns from places like the AZ gun show etc.

It is false economy however, you may think you save on transfer fees, but you spend more money buying more guns.

                        I'm not complaining at all
                        C&R nut.

My first order from Brownells paid for my FFL03. The COE was paid by not having to make 2 trips to my FFL after ordering out of state C&R handguns.

That's true for cash flow, but for net worth the guns are still worth what you paid for them, and the transfer fee is just money down a rathole. I've never sold a gun for less than I paid (some of that's inflation, but still).

You are absolutely correct, I was referring to cash flow. The transfer fees narrow or completely negate any kind of "deal" you may find.
                              C&R nut.

Sorry to ask about something that doubtless already exists - hoping you can point me to the right thread and then let this one die.
I agree, our sticky is a mess, outdated and convoluted. I've started through it a couple times but aborted, frustrated. The OP showing up and asking for a simple answer to a simple question is not out of line, no need to hassle him, even if he did miss our sticky.

Maybe somebody, as a service to our community, can gather the info and type up a quick post, submit it to a mod to update our 900 post sticky in the 1st post.
