This is what happens when you use ammo that's not loaded specific for a Garand. This may have been an overload with the wrong powder, the cause is still being looked into. The shooter got lucky and walked away with all his body parts intact.

What a moron.
I had guy do the exact same thing next to me a at San Gabriel Valley Gun Club. He broke out his brand new Springfield M1A SOCOM and a ziplock baggy of reloads he bought at the gunshow. First shot, stock splintered, receiver cracked, both he and I had several small bleeding nicks from flying debris. The idiot was of the same opinion as the Garand Moron in thinking someone owed him a new rifle and that none of this was his fault.Comment

Wow! That is some crazy sh*t right there. I feel sorry for the M1, haha.
I don't know why, but it's weird seeing that 7 mil serial number!Dom

what types of ammunition is it ok to shoot out of a M1 (I'm a C&R noob :-/ ).Comment
-
That wasn't the result of firing commercial ammunition in an M1 rifle, that was the result of firing a seriously overloaded round. Using commercial ammo with the wrong pressure curve will batter an M1 but it won't cause a catastrophic failure like this instance.Comment

if you were a noob you wouldn't be asking....
Checkout Fulton Armory's full line up of M1 Garand, M1 Carbine and M14/M1A rifles. Shop GI Parts or send your rifle in for gunsmitthing.
Clint, what ammunition do you recommend for 7.62/.308 cal. M1s & M14/M1As and .30-'06 M1s?
We recommend 147-150 grain full metal jacket for standard fodder, and recommend and offer 168 and 175 grain Black Hills Match for accuracy. Our rifle accuracy guarantees are based on the appropriate Black Hills Match ammo.
Clint, what about hunting ammo? The last batch of hunting ammo I tried did not cycle the action quite right and I had a couple of malfunctions. Thanks, Pat.
Pat, we offer Black Hills Gold .30-'06 and .308 Winchester, with a 165 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip. You want the hard polycarbonate tip to keep from gumming up the rifle with lead shaved from soft point tips, and 165 gr is an ideal weight for the M1.

Concur. This guy was an Idiot of the first Order. He dropped $1000+ on a rifle then tried to cheap out on the ammo. AND used totally unknown ammo in it.What a moron.

And just look at that case seperation about to happen in the round second from the right.

4-5 years back, someone shattered a stock on an M1 with Hornady Light Magnum ammo. I've got the photos saved somewhere (at home?)Comment
