Big, big difference between a rifle that has the receiver welded back together and the restoration of a drill rifle.

Besides which if a receiver has been welded and then heat treated properly, how in the hell can you consider it a bubba job? We make fun of that type of work due to the amateur nature of the craftsmanship and the horrid results.
I have both one restored drill rifle and one that was two halves welded back together. With the drill rifle I was the bubba who restored it. The re-weld I don't know who did it.

I've seen a lot of really nice 03 sporters and some not so nice but everyone calls all of them bubba jobs. So, what's the difference if bubba makes a sporter or restores it to military?

Bubba implies a hack job. Just because someone says it doesn't make it so.

Using that logic, then Doug Turnnbull is a bubba.

Never heard of him. Does he restore drill rifles or re-weld Garands?

I was using the Hornady 3037 bullets. The biggest problem I had was the cannelure is in the wrong place for 30-06. You have to leave it out quite a bit to get the proper COL so it doesn't have as much bullet tension in the case. I switched to the M2 ball from Weidners and it works great in my 03A3 and Garand.

Is that the Hornady 150 grain FMJBT? The cannelure is also in the wrong place for .308 so I assumed it was set up for 30-06 lengths.

Yep that's the one. Interesting, I thought it was designed for .308. Here's a pic I found that shows the way it looks in 30-06. If you seat to the cannelure the COL is really short, if you seat out to the proper COL there isn't a lot of the bullet in the neck of the case.

Load them both and see what your rifle likes best. Just be sure to seat the 3037 bullets longer to the COL instead of the cannelure.
