Not a single person mentioned the amnisty registered guns. It was big long time period too. Not sure when it ended.

I registered mine as a AW. After I did all of what I described above the DOJ cautioned me against deregistering it unless I removed the sleeved FH completely. I don't like the looks of the naked barrel of I've kept it as a registered AW.

I neutered one and posted the fix here.

Using a lathe, a GL/FH was sliced roughly in half (no more FH), then turned down a couple MM (no more GL), and reinstalled.

The original GL/FH resides out of state, and the neutered one sits on the rifle- easy (-ish, the GL is HARD steel), reversible, and doesn't totally look like a can of butt. Apex used to sell replacement units cheap.

What amnisty (or amnesty) period do you mean? I recall no amnesty period after Roberti-Roos or SB23 (AW features ban) that allowed for any additional period of registration other than the fiasco that went on with Lundgren and the SKS. And by that, especially no "big long time period" either. Roberti-Roos was very defined, by names and the cut-off for RAW under SB23 (features ban) was very specific.

I do recall something regarding a very short period of amnesty for certain LEO in ownership of RAW who were thought to have been exempt, then told they must register too; and may have been allowed, but I only know of that applying to those LEO and not regular Joes not given comrade Gestapo privilege.

Yet anything was possible, however I don't recall it - if you can point to or provide particular links or indicate the details of what you are describing, I would appreciate it.

For a fix for the FH, I had a brake made by Custommuzzlebrakes.com for $135(with 10% coupon). Bored out an AR10 crush washer with a dremal to fit over the 16.8ish mm threads on the MAS and backed it all with the lock nut. It works great and will be easy to return to original configuration when I leave CA. I still need to touch it up with some Aluma Hyde II to match. The brake is larger in diameter than factory FH so can't fit one of the commonly available rifle grenades on it.

Forgot to mention if you want to keep FH(still need to take of GL stuff) a hole tapped in the mag release in the middle of the spring with a set screw will act as a bullet button of sorts. When you tighten the set screw down after inserting mag it won't release. Kind of a pain, but works.
