Store would not accept my C&R

The other day I bought a yugo sks in Utah, I handed them my C&R license and they told me they do not accept it? Is it a choice? It seems kind of stupid to me, I would think it would release them from liability in the sale if I happend to be a pshyco.

Yup, it is their choice if they want to accept your C&R. They don't have to.

I've also heard of stores that will accept a C&R, except for those of CA residents. FUD may be wrong, but it isn't illegal.

Do you want an AOW or C&R SBS/SBR in CA?

It's possible that they didn't want to sell you a Yugo SKS because of the grenade launcher on the end. It's considered a destructive device in CA.

That SHOULDN'T matter, the buyer assumes all responsability.

Why would you use your C&R if you are a Utah resident? It's like a 60 yr old Grandpa toting around his grandkids trying to get the clerk to card him for smokes. Is there any reason to use it except to show it off to the dealer?

I thought Utah was already a cash n carry state.

You have to pay for the back ground check unless you have a ccw. The C&R should work also.

And, IIRC, if you use your C&R at a dealer (other than CA), you don't have to fill out a 4473, so less paperwork.

Yeah when I still lived in Kentucky the dealers loved it when you had a C&R. Sometimes you could get a little knocked off the price too!

You don't have to fill one out in California either if you use your C&R and COE.

cool. I wondered about that, but haven't had a chance to use my C&R+COE for a C&R cash-and-carry yet. I do know that you still have to do DROS, but do get to skip the 10-day wait.

How do I get a C&R license. Where do I start and is it expensive. Is it worth it.

Go to http://www.atf.gov/dcof/index.htm and request F 7CR (5310.16) - Application for License (Collector of Curios and Relics) Under 18 U.S.C. Chapter 44, Firearms.

They will mail it to you, fill it out per the instructions, send one copy back to BATF +$30, send second copy to CLEO that you refered to on the form, wait ~2 months, receive approved C&R FFL in mail.

Cost is $30 per three years. It gets you discounts at many vendors. One order at Brownells or MidwayUSA can pay for it.

The COE is more expensive, around $100 in fees for the first year, but the renewal is something like $20 bucks. It has a very limited use in CA, but when used in conjuction with the C&R does exempt you from the 10-day wait on C&R purchases from a dealer, and exempts you from the 1-in-30 handgun regulations for all handguns, modern and C&R.
