Nice job taking the time to post it, and possibly save someone who might not have been as critical.

Totally Agree with NightHawk - thanks!

I think the wire transfer was a def red-flag

although personally I think I could have talked him down to $200 dollars each and had him send quite a few of them.

Internet scammers are the scum of the universe. Buy locally or look at GB, where there is a rating system. You can find a USGI M1 for $800 without too much difficulty. I have done a LOT of online deals and no one has ever asked for Western Union.

Thanks for the heads up OP.
As far as trying to find a good source for legit M1 Carbines, you might head over to the M1 Carbine section of the CMP marketplace. There are currently 5-6 carbines listed on the first page alone. Lots of good people on those boards and if a seller is listing a counterfeit or 'Bubba special' carbine, or the seller has a shady reputation, they will be quickly outed by the CMP carbine cognoscenti.

            Good luck OP.

scammers are always scamming, for the amount of effort, they could probably just get a job unless they are just trying to supplement their fixed income.

I ended getting a CROSMAN M1 BB rifle instead. Cheaper and I can shoot it in the backyard.
