    Muzzle loader over fireplace.

Out of the blue my wife wants to take down the painting we have over the mantle and replace it with a rifle of some sort, like it the old western films.
First I thought of a muzzle loader/ black powder, second maybe a Henrys lever gun. We could also put up a replica of some sort. I need some ideas.
It would be visible from the front door. Maybe a coach shot gun?

I kike the look of a muzzle loader or shotgun as a wall hanger.

It depends on the theme of the room. If it is oriental, use a replica of one of their countries rifles. If, like you said western, there are a number of replicas that will foot the bill.

Yep, maybe think of a theme, what statement do you want to make with the rifle?

Pennsylvania Rifle? Musket? Lever gun sounds good, too.

By the way, congrats on your awesome wife!

I have a left hand muzzle loader and a right hand facing oppisite direction over my fireplace. Red brick wall, brass hangers, brass accents on the guns and brass door on my wood stove.

Go with a muzzle loader. No one who sees it will want to steal it and they look better than cartridge ones over the fireplace IMHO.

I picked up an old Iver Johnson single shot, exposed hammer 12 gauge just for this type of display. Got it off Gunbroker for $45. I did take the precaution of removing the firing pin before mounting it just in case someone does take it.

Joel Silver had a double sized 1919A4 trainer in his office at Warners - I remember seeing it and making sure some day I had one.
It is not there at his new offices in SM.

I'd probably go for one of those Pony Express style short-barreled double-guns (muzzle loading) in your case, they look cool but don't represent too much money or liability.

We are going to display Old Glory in the corner next to the brick fireplace. The fireplace does not go all the way up to the ceiling. Kinda leaning toward the musket/muzzle loader look. One has to step into the living room a few steps to see where the fireplace is located. Can't see it standing at the open front door, I thought it was visible but it's not. Got to see what my wife has in mind.
Fun project! The only thing rustic is the used brick hearth and fireplace, we have oak cabinets in the kitchen area that is open to the den. Wood floor in Kitchen and dining room with light beige carpet in den.

I picked up an old belgian trap door heavy octagonal barrel long gun at the Santa Barbara show for a wopping 80 bucks it is some weird 7.62 cal looks over a hundred years old. I am hanging it above my pheasant mount here at house. The barrel is so heavy i thought I could pour split shot and screws on top of 30 cal blank ramset load and it would be my back up gun(LOL)
