 When did you get them?

JD's a crap shoot. I have one 4 year old AR-15 lower from them that's perfect, a 2 year old lower from them that's barely within usable specifications, and had an LR-308 matching set from 2 years ago that I think they had a blind guy drilling the holes on.

Considering JD charges about the same as other actual reputable companies out there that don't have the same chronic problems, there's no reason (in my opinion) to bother doing business with them.

For ****s and giggle though, I noticed Parallax was mentioned, which is the best gun store in town for any number of reasons. Next time you're in there, ask them what they think of JD Machine.Comment

JD Machine runs the gamut from excellent to crap, depending on when they were made. I have many JD lowers, and I have been very happy with them. The main issues with them are their inconsistency in quality and their pricing. Back when an AR lower was going for $150, their $129 sale price was a decent bargain. Today, when you occasionally see sales of lowers for $39, that $129 price is stupidly high. Add to that the chance that your lower may be out of spec, or have crappy anodizing, or any of the other problems that have had over the years, and I see no point in bothering to go with them. Realize, I was one of their biggest fanboys way back when. I have a couple of their prototype parts on some of my guns. I own the first upper receiver they made and sold to the public. And while I am happy with what I have, I still won't go out of my way to buy anything new from them. If they drop their prices, maybe. But having a receiver that says "Made in San Diego" just isn't worth the extra cash to me.

I bought my JD lowers from various places, on line, one "blem" at Big Shot and the special "bear" gun you see in that avatar direct from JD. The uppers were bought on line, one from Red Barn, the rest from others.

Each set fits very tight, no gaps, no wobbles like my sloppy Colt 6920 had. The uppers are very tight to the barrels, you must sand off the park and press them in with a vise. They offer better accuracy from being that tight. One has a $160 Del-ton 1/9 twist non-chrome 20". It's my most accurate barrel, (I also have Daniel Defense, Spike and BCM) and hits the 600 yard gongs at Pala all day with Hornady 69 grain match bullets and Varget powder.

I also have Anderson, Franklin Armory and Aero Precision lowers. I like the JD's the best.Comment

I have Franklin, it has the best anodizing I've seen, dark and very smooth. They fit looser than Aero Precision or JD, but they have a tension screw under the handguard to eliminate the red rubber thingy some install. The trigger pins holes are a bit large and loose with a mil trigger pin, they will rotate. I used an ALG QMS trigger and their slightly larger trigger pins fit much tighter and don't rotate.Comment
