I'm kind of on the fence but thinking the 45 ACP would be different and nice to have. I'm not concerned about the BB issue. Any thoughts on which one?

    aghauler,

I would base my choice on which caliber ammo is cheaper to get in your area. In mine 45acp is outraegous so I would go fror the 9mm myself.

Since you have pistols in the same caliber your choice would be a plus in your favor.

The cost of .45 is about the same price as 5.56 on GunBot.net. For the same cost, I would rather shoot 5.56 then .45 out of a rifle.

I have an AR in 9mm, it's fun to shoot and way cheaper. I run dirty 9mm ammo thru my AR that I would not run they my handguns. Remanufactured ammo or Tula, no problem.
Well this is another option, I have a spare A3 UPPER and a RAW LOWER so no bullet button and can use hi caps. So what would I need to build a 9mm upper? BBl, Gas tube, handguards, mag well block and 9mm BCG (so I've heard) anything else? No permanent alterations to my LOWER? Would this be a cost effective option? Price cost for the Hi Point in 9mm or 45ACP OTG is a little over $400. Using a "built" 9mm or 45ACP would eliminate the TAX, DROS, Dealer Fees.

you will need a magwell adapter for uzi magazines or colt 9mm magazines, no gas tube needed these are blowback operation, 9mm ramped bolt (one whole bolt, its not a group like in an AR), 9mm barrel, handguard, a buffer spacer is recommended to limit the bolt travel and save your bolt catch from damage, a 9mm buffer is an option too.

My 9mm HiPoint carbine was a great shooter. Loved it. Seemed to have very reasonable power.

                Thanks,
I'll have to research costs for this.

If you do this the mags will NO LONGER WORK in a 1911, so mag compatibility is still an issue. Plus unless you go with 10rd 1911 mags (which cost more then the High Points) you go from a 9rd HP mag to an 8rd 1911.

There is a guy (thingmeister) that makes a conversion piece to let it take unmodified 1911 mags though.

I have the 45 version (traded some ammo for it during the frenzy) and am ambivalent on it. No HP high caps for it and 1911 high caps are basically crap (relevant for when we leave Cali after retirement).

You might consider the new Chiappas M1 carbine in 9mm that takes Beretta 92F mags. It is more expensive then the HP though.

Good point on the mag issue.

I had such a bad experience with Chiappa's 22lr UPPER and their Customer NO Service I swore I'd never by a Chiappa product again.

While I haven't shot one myself a manager at Turner's (that I have known for a while and has no reason to lie to me) said his 9mm M1 has been flawless for several hundred rounds.

I think it is a more elegant solution to a pistol caliber carbine then the High Point but obviously some google-fu would be in order prior to an actual purchase though.

Personally I am now leaning more towards a Rossi lever gun in 357mag or 44mag as a more useful tool.

are you saying 45acp is faster than 9mm? i'm intrigued with this discovery. please continue.

I don't think he was saying that, I think he was saying that both rounds will benefit from increased velocity out of the longer barrel, not that .45 will be faster than 9mm.
