Hi Point Carbine 9mm or 45 ACP?

Got to fondle a Hi Point Carbine the other day in Reno and am now interested in getting one. Seemed to point well and felt good. My quandary is do I want a 9mm or 45ACP? I already have a PC9 and numerous 9mm pistols. I also have 45ACP pistols in the inventory plus plenty of ammo to support both. I'm kind of on the fence but thinking the 45 ACP would be different and nice to have. I'm not concerned about the BB issue. Any thoughts on which one?

Well .45 gets more velocity out of a rifled barrel but 9mm is cheaper to shoot. So ask yourself what you are using it for? If its some kind of hunting or SD purpose then .45. But if its just for range use, 9mm because ammo is considerably cheaper.

Sounds like you already answered yourself. Get the 45 ACP. They are nice shooters. Enjoying the 9mm and .40 myself.

Range, plinking and SD would be primary use, got other stuff for hunting if needed.
Found a recommended reloader in Carson City if I need one.
Also can buy the 9mm Carbine in Sacto for $369 plus tax and DROS. They would have to order the 45 ACP but price would in the same ballpark.

I would go 9mm then but Im a cheap bastard . If you have the money, reload, or have a stash of .45 then .45 all the way. .45 just gives you this sense of power the 9mm doesnt haha.

Yeah looks like I'll be going the 45ACP route!

Next question is if I get the flattop model can I also put a set of iron sights on it?

To get .45 velocities up there, you'll have to use lighter bullets with more powder, i.e.... +p, hollow points, home defense ammo etc. More expensive.
9mm will be cheaper and faster though.

Just think through whatever you decide to buy.
Both calibers are great, each have their positives and negatives.
It just depends on how many more positives one or the other give you.

FWIW...I've reloaded for my DDLES 9mm AR carbine with 7.0 grns of bluedot under 115gn RNCP.
It's pretty fast at 1400-1425 fps
Only a small 165grn .45 +p load would come close in speed.

Here's some ballistic info to help you out....or confuse you !!

Hmmmm, definitely food for thought and thanks for the ballistics tables!

I would go with a 9mm just for the cost benefit.

The cost of .45 is about the same price as 5.56 on GunBot.net. For the same cost, I would rather shoot 5.56 then .45 out of a rifle.

I have an AR in 9mm, it's fun to shoot and way cheaper. I run dirty 9mm ammo thru my AR that I would not run they my handguns. Remanufactured ammo or Tula, no problem.

I know but the .45 gains more from longer barrels and pack more of a wallop.
