I'm not sure if this is a problem that is common. But it happened to me so I invented a solution for it. My 9mm ar 15 takes thick mags and my standard mag release would cause my mags to fallout during firing. So I invented an adjustable mag release. I don't want to go into details on how it works... But it works great, 500 rounds through it so far. You can adjust this for any thickness you want. Is there a general need for this or no?

Sounds like you solved a non-issue.Randall Rausch

If that's true, (because I honestly don't know) then the only difference between mine and others would be that mine uses an Allen wrench to adjust it insured of a special tool. You can also swap the ends of it easily.I don't drink or Smoke. I spend my money on gunpowder and gasoline.Comment

If you are needing to keep the latch from going so far into the receiver, that is a problem with the receiver being out-of-spec.
The main cause of mags not staying latched in ls the lack of tension on the mag catch.Randall Rausch

The depth is set by the receiver and then by the magazine body when the magazine is installed.

Then the receiver isn't machined to allow the mag catch to sit low enough.
Or the mag catch isn't machined to sit low enough in the receiver(possibly the part that catches the mag itself is too short).
Or the magazines aren't made properly to allow a standard mag catch, in a standard receiver, to hold the mag in place.
The problem with that last one, is that the length of the mag catch itself sits inside the mag well against the magazine, making it more likely that the receiver itself is out of spec. If you take your mag catch and button off, then look at how it interfaces when held loosely against a magazine in it's slot, you'll understand what's going on. The mag would have to be bent strangely, or made way too thin.Last edited by Merc1138; 09-18-2014, 1:53 AM.Comment

I think this is similar to what you're talking about.

You are on the wrong side of the receiver...
We are talking about the magazine CATCH, not the magazine RELEASE.Randall Rausch

Anywho, in my experience with the convertible BB you can adjust the tension to the precise depth where the mag catch will clear the mag. Not sure if it's similar to OP's invention just wanted to throw it out there.KCCOComment

So here's why mine was necessary for me. It wasn't because of an out of spec receiver. I was using a dpms lower in a 5.56 platform and moved to 9mm. Obviously the mags and magwell become different due to dimensions and thickness requirements of the mags. I should've mentioned this earlier, sorry guysalso, I should mention that my design would add no cost and would be just as cheap at regular mag releases.
