    Pistol Buffer question

I'm new to AR pistols and recently bought an Upper from another member. It has a 7.5" barrel with a Noveski Flamming pig. I took it out yesterday and it wouldn't cycle at all. The seller, who will for now remain anonymous, assured me that it ran fine. My question is; could it have been because of the buffer and spring? If so, Which ones shoild I be using? I tried 55 and 62gr ammo with the same results. Thanks

What buffer are you running? Just a regular carbine buffer?
I heard tuning the gas on a pistol can be a pain.

What do you mean it won't cycle at all? Failure to eject? Failure to load next round? Bolt not moving back at all? More info please.

I run a Noveske 7.5 barrel with flaming pig and a H2 buffer and it runs flawless.

I've run multiple 7.5" with A2 flash hiders and standard buffers and springs with no problem. Also, as bigbully suggested, please expand on what "won't cycle at all" means.

Does it not even come out of battery? or is it short stroking?

Sorry guys, as far as I can tell, the bolt carrier isn't moving at all. I had to manually cycle the next round. I finally reached the seller and he had a suggestion. I was not runninig it with the buffer and tube that he supplied. I was running it with a heavier buffer that I had laying around when I assembled the lower. I hope to get out in the morning and test the diffrent buffer. I'll report back when I do.

No amount of "heavy" buffer should make it not even unlock. Did you do anything with the gas system? Switch gas blocks? Something sounds fishy here. Try the new buffer, but I'm not expecting it to magically start cycling correctly.

is the bolt carrier one that he said worked with it

you often need a strong extractor spring

are you using wolf or other steel cased ammo?

              what ammo are you using

If the bolt is not even moving then it's not getting gas. Is the gas block adjustable and possibly shut off? Is the gas block out of position blocking the port? Gas port blocked? Gas tube pinched or not seated properly?

This thread is sorely lacking in information needed to be able to diagnose a problem.

If it's a set screw type gas block, it may have come loose and shifted away from the gas port. That can happen if the screws aren't tight enough, don't have loctite, aren't knurled-tip, etc.

This might be the case with a clamp-on type as well, but I haven't witnessed it nearly as often.

I'm assuming your running a standard carbine buffer.

Pistols usually require H type buffers/springs to cycle correctly. Also adjustable gas blocks really aid in cycles go as well for these builds.

also a little thing to remember the hole is drilled in the standard location

if you take your gas block and press it right up to the barrel shoulder it may close off a bit since it is expecting the handguard retainer gap

If you realized the different sizes involved between the gas block gas passage and the gas port in the barrel and did some simple math, you might learn that this really won't ever matter.

                              This thread is confusing me.....

                              Randall-
Check your variable piston return spring and muffler bearings- if they are fine, maybe disassembling the glove box might help start your car....

Tell us about the Pistol lower? Who made it? Was it home built? Commercial Manufacturer?

Who installed the fire control components?

Has the pistol ever been shot before?

Have you function tested the entire lower and upper?

We love to help... but the correct starting info and symptoms are needed...

Some of us are overly touchy when the wrong terms are used... we try not to flame.... well normally.... we try to help... if possible

So tell us about your pistol and what specifically happens during firing?
