    1) Factory sights are good

    2) On a new firearm everything should be checked for tightness (and/or correct torque)

    3) The contents of the box are correct - No sling. You're actually ahead of the game - When did Ruger start giving 2 mags. with their rifles?

Actually, now that I think about it the extra mag was part of a promo, not sure if it was Big 5 or Ruger promo. The five round mags are really short and it makes it hard to change them because there is nothing to grab on to. I bought a ten round which is better but I wish someone sold twenty round bodies pinned to ten.

My mini was designed to not have iron sights (Target Model), so I can't comment on the sight issue. My Ruger MkIII hunter had the front sight start to move, though. It was a tack driver until that happened. Some brake cleaner and locktite fixed that problem.

I don't remember if my mini had more than 1 mag. It was a 5 round mag though. I now have two 5 round mags, and I bought 3 of the ten round mags a while back. Mine didn't come with a sling and I would have to get it out to see if it had the attachment points.

The flying brass was almost as deadly as the projectile. I found a guy on the perfect union (gun doc, or doc) that makes gas port bushings. One of the smaller ones helped tame the flying brass, but it still goes a ways depending on air temperature. One of the smaller bushings caused it to not reload after a while, but the brass did stay within 6 feet of the gun. I decided to change to the smaller bushing when I ran my first or second 3 gun match. I don't know which was worse, using a heavy as mini with a 6-20 scope for 3 gun or changing out parts without testing. Now I use a customized AR for 3 gun, and the mini to plink from the bench.

My 197 series Ranch Mini-14 lasted about 3-4k rounds before the rear site fell off somewhere. I finally got around to ordering a new one and plan to Loctite it. I also just ordered the ASI adjustable gas block, that way I can mess around with the gas system and only have to take it apart once to install the block.

can someone comment in more detail about purple loctite? I have never seen it. I have had newly installed sights come loose. But, I did not use Loctite(although did clean threads first).

hey OP don't fret about the rear sight just replace it while it's off..
much easier, the way the tech sight works vs factory rear sight, I got the larger aperture and really improved the 100 yd groups.. how'd you get 2 mags, you lucky dog??

You can get it at Home Depot or any automotive store, it's called Thread Locker Loktite. Keeps everything in place but allows you to take the screw off if you need to.

I have Red and Blue at home in the garage. I have never heard of Purple though. Or it's advantages/disadvantages.
