My guess is as some others have indicated is a gas piston problem. All the settings basically (except manual) produce the same result. Not getting consistent gas back pressure to cycle properly. Tell sig you want a brand new upper. I had similar problems with my FAL.

Send it back. You'll get it back in about 2 weeks.

Same exact issues with my 716 Patrol back when I bought it last year. I was able to photograph the position of the feed ramps and the dents caused by bullet tips being slammed in to the area below those ramps. Bullets were badly deformed. Resulting in accuracy issues. Reluctantly I sent it back to Sig along with my photographs - but they did fix it. They claimed they only polished the feed ramps but another photo confirmed they secretly replaced the upper. I had made marks on the rail for re-positioning my Trijicon upon return. The marks were there but they looked slightly different. Still, I set up the glass and it was dead-on zero at 100 yards. Fired about 200 flawless rounds on my first trip after Sig made modifications. Runs like a top now.

The rifle should have performed right out of the box. It didn't. When I was confident it was a real problem (and not something I did or didn't do) I sent it back and Sig made it right. I learned a lot about grease during that event. I strongly recommend greasing this rifle liberally until it's broken in and running well.

Lol, I guess you don't own a high end 1911 or over under shotgun....or a car? Every heard of engine break in ?

              Most guns require break in

OP, sorry to hear of your problems, I've had 3 x Sig 716, all flawless

My PTR 91 functioned flawlessly out of the box.

Maybr a car10 buffer/spring combo will help. My build has 2000 rounds and 0 stoppages. Using an ar15 extension tube with car10 setup

I know its a hassle but if these manufacturers try to pass this stuff off as as quality firearms it hurts the whole industry.

                  send it back.
                  demanded they get it right,
if it doesn't work keep sending it back until they get it right.

they can't cut corners AND charge big money.

Sig fixed the production issue long ago. OP just happened to buy new old stock that had the defect. This will be fixed quickly.

i got my rifle back from sig last week and took it to the range today.

gunsmith's notes: polished chamber, adjusted gas mechanism, fired 2 magazines of federal 150gr without issues.

the gun shot better today. it failed to feed once on a new mag insertion but then shot flawlessly after that. with 147gr pmc, i had to open up the gas block to setting 2. i will try with stronger ammo next time.

successfully locked bolt back on empty mag, and no ftf/fte after the first mag. i had fun shooting it today which is a first.

i also took out my ssg 3000 18" (brand new, never fired) and got it setup at 100 yards, was shooting 1 moa out of the box with a bushnell elite 4-30x30mm. was hitting steel at 200 yards and 300 yards with pretty much zero effort and no bipod or rest, just sitting at the bench with my arms on the concrete. i am a newbie shooter so this speaks to the quality and usability of the gun.

the trigger on the SSG is phenomenal, going back to the 716 felt awful, i'll probably have to buy a new trigger for it haha. will update this thread when i go back out w/ match ammo.

Glad it's fixed! Btw, they gave mine back with similar comments but did much more work then they admitted. They replaced my entire upper. It's a tck driver now.

Congrats on the SSG. That sounds more like the kind of experience you expected and deserved.

Glad everything is fine now. I have the SSG 24" one, sub moa rifle. Has the best trigger!

I've got a SIG 556R, and that thing runs like a raped ape. Never had a single problem with it...unlike my Bushy .308 which gave me fits until I put an o-ring around the extractor spring.
