    Quasi-dedicated 22lr planning phase 1

Alright, here's the deal. Finally finished my 1st build after about 6months. But now I got bit by the 22 bug.

The next rig will be mostly for 22 but I want to keep my options open and still be able to shoot 556 if need be. So I wanted to get as close to a 1/16 barrel as possible but still be able to stabilize xm193 ball. So I'm thinking the best compromise is a 1/12 barrel.

I want to keep the weight down, so I was thinking of ordering a 16" lightweight barreled upper from CMMG to match a CMMG 22 conversion bolt kit.

So basicly I have 2 main questions...

    1. In your opinon is 1/12 a good in-between?

    and

    2. What are the cons associated with a lightweight barrel?

I've tried to keep in mind that that I will be compromising some accuracy vs. going with a true dedicated 22 like Spikes. I've been searching abit and have a pretty good feel for how this might go down but wanted some direct input before pulling the trigger.

As always any advice is truly appreciated.

    Thanks,
    Jason

    10/22. Cheap, customizable, lightweight.

      Why not this:
.223 upper/lower equipped with Bullet Button II*
      remove .223 upper, remove BBII*
      attach .22lr upper...good to go.

*ETA: I meant B-15 instead of BBII...thanks Dedeye

        +1.

I know 22 ARs are tacticool, but by the time you are done dumping money into a 22 AR, you would have been better off buying a used 10/22 and replacing everything but the receiver. Accuracy as well as money wise.

unfortunatley the tacticool synapse firing sytem in my brain overrides any rational notion of purchasing a more sound and economical solution as a 10/22.

This would be my recommendation as well, though I'd suggest a B-15 instead of a bullet button.

well, I think I've made up my mind..

Im gonna go with a Spikes .22lr marked lower with a B15 as suggested and a CMMG 16" 1/12 twist upper.

But still curious about any cons associated with a lightweight barrel. thx...

You guys have been reading my mind.
I've got the B-15 in and just waiting to pull the trigger on the .22 upper...
May have to sell something else to finance it.

I ordered up a Spikes which is on back order 6-8 weeks for the 5.5 inch (not sure about the others.) It will have a home on my M16 lower which is in the ATFs "inbox".

That's a great selection of stocks! It seems like you have to buy a lot of extras for that 10/22 AR-15 -- anyone here HAVE ONE?

I've tried the Nordic build. It's okay, nothing really to be thrilled about. If you really gotta have a tacticool 10/22 then go for it.

Well I had to do it. I went with my original idea and ordered a CMMG lightweight...

CMMG 16 1/12 Lightweight CAR Upper w/.625 FSB (A3, Semi-Auto Carrier, No Bolt Group Upgrade, No Charging Handle Upgrade, Anodized Ramps, A2 Post, YHM Low-Profile Gas Block, Round Forward Assist, YHM Lightweight Spectre Length Free Float Four Rai, No Rear Sight, A2 Hider) SKU/PNO: U-1604L12

I preordered a 22 conversion from them last month so hopefully the 2 parts drop on me around the same time.

Now I just need to use the search button and figure out if I can safely drop a mag with a 22 marked lower and 5.56 upper with conversion in the reciever.
