    Barrett M82A1

Does anyone here know if .50BMG is the only round you can get the M82A1 in? Possibly a .510DTC Option?

One of the most beautiful rifles ever built =)

i honestly don't know why everyone fawns over these rifles...ammo must be expensive as hell...sure you have the stopped power of an Abrams tank, but what would you shoot, paper would feel like a step back and I'm positive you would upset someone if you took down their freight train or air liner.
i personally let the clay hit the ground before i shoot it, its easier that way

Barrett only makes the Model 82A1 in .50BMG.
Barrett does offer the Model 99 in .416Barret.

It's cheaper to buy an Allied Armaments semi-auto M2HB than a Barrett Model 82A1.

      So, get the M2.

Pic was taken at Lytle Creek during a semi-auto belt fed shoot.

Wow nice set up :-P Well didn't Carlos Hathcock nail his longest kill with a scoped M2?

Yes he did but, IIRC he had took many sighter shots a day or two before "the shot."

I didn't know I wanted a 50BMG until the Overlords in Sacramento said I couldn't have one... so I went out and bought two.

Yes, the ammo is expensive. But as long as it pisses off the likes of Dianne Feinstein and her buddies, then it is worth the price.

It's not THAT good of a rifle. Buy a Windrunner instead.

Not to mention the M82A1 is semi auto (right?) with at least one evil feature (pistol grip). The M99 is bolt action though, isn't it?

If you're going for a semi auto rifle, keep this in mind:

Barrett Developed the .416 in responce to the .50 BMG ban.
The .416 was designed to be ballistically superior and more accurate.

I'd rather have an M2HB, but if you drool over the big bore sniper rifles, then the .416 is really the best option.

Please do not associate the Barrett or the .50BMG as a anti-TANK rifle, even jokingly. Thats like saying a 5.56 round has the power to take out and stop a regular vehicle. The .50 BMG is for "LIGHT" armored vehicles, huge difference there.
                          There are "Anti-Tank Rifles"(ie 20mm Solothurn)...and a Barrett or a .50BMG is far from that league.

The word from Barrett is that the M82 will be coming in .416, but the ETA has never been set firm. Until then it's a holding pattern for anyone in CA that wants a new M82.

I think he ment "stopping power of an abrams tank", not that it could take out an abrams tank or that it was even an anti tank rifle
