But back on topic a good AR or any weapon is one that you still have ammo for after a 6 months to a year.
When the SHTF scenario arrives it will likely be years before there's order again.

If I can't handle it with my preferred setup, I'm not sure minor differences in weapon type would have made much difference anyway.

Well if you see a bunch of guys in a truck with rifles im pretty sure they'd probably be a threat.

In some situations, yeah, I guess the circumstances and evidence would be overwhelming enough to justify firing on them. For example, you live in a rural area on a big patch of land. You have a long driveway with a locked gate at the main road and a big sign that says: Keep the F' out or DIE! From your house you observe a truck full of armed men break down your gate and start coming down the driveway. Yeah, in SHTF, I would probably start shooting at them from 3-400 yards away, given those circumstances...

But you can't assume that every truck full of armed men mean you harm. I can think of a few reasons why a group of guys would go out armed in a truck, non of which include violent intent on their part.

Shooting people from 3-400 yards with no evidence of their intent is murder. I understand some people are OK with that (murder) in SHTF. "The rules don't apply any more." "Better you die first than me." "Can't take any chances when it comes to my family's safety."

But those people would be part of the problem, imo, and no different from animals. Personally, I'd want to shoot THEM at 3-400 yards first, before the truck full of men I knew nothing about.

If I to have to pick my AR it will be 16" dizzy iron sights and a nice scope to add once your eye sight starts to deteriorate due to old age or what not.

What weapons/stock you have when SHTF is not going to matter as much as what you have between your ears. Luck also will play an important role.

You can have the best guns and lots of ammo/supplies, and someone smarter than you with a Saturday Night Special can take all of it from right under your nose.

Luck plays a huge role when SHTF too, you just don't know, but having a rifle and some ammo is better than a pitchfork, I guess.
