    lol..

maybe we should just do an "open letter" thing to show our appreciation?

mr atf dude, we appreciate your cunning undercover subterfuge - what an amazing job of rooting out evil you've done here. you're soooo smart!

you're so effective and awesome at fighting terrorism, drug dealing and nutballs with homicidal tendencies. we're quite certain you have a really *really* big johnson too.

the world felt *so* unsafe 3 months ago when law-abiding citizens could openly go to a machine shop & rent a machine to finish their lower receiver. now that you've eliminated that evil & awful practice, I know *I* sleep better..

anyway, enjoy the holiday overtime - we know its such a sacrifice to set around in your underpants on a holiday weekend, and come up with clever usernames like "art300", then use your amazing super-cop skills to root out evil like u do..

Good luck. I've been asking around just for a CNC shop for other random work to no avail. People seem reluctant to recommend a shop for anything, let alone an AR-10 80% help.

What does it take to prove you are not a shill? Join date, itrader feedback? Anyone who can help me solve that can PM me.

Done and gone. Do it yourself. That's the way it was supposed to be anyway.

I bought a mill and a jig. I am building some equipment for my sheet metal shop with the mill and lathe. Lots of fun to build things on your own very self satisfying.

                Yup.

If your inexperienced and/or worried about destroying a 80% lower, get some equipment and comparable aluminum bar stock in similar dimensions to a 80%lower and practice the machining work you'll need to do. It's a blast and you'll get pretty confident quick, provided you have none to little machining experience it's a necessity to learn the equipment you'll be using and set your cut dimensions.

If you want someone else to do the work, just go buy a stripped lower and forget about it.

Many of the shops require that you bring your own program code for the machine which may get around the atf problem. They simply are renting a tool to you nothing more you must do all the work; they will not help in any way if you mess up your lower too bad.

That doesn't address the real issue the ATF had with the shops. They were ultimately concerned with WHERE there work was taking place. Even if someone was just "renting" the machine, the ATF's position is that the owner of the premises is still manufacturing without a license, etc. Theoretically, it seems you would have to get the rented CNC machine to YOUR premises to perhaps be in the clear.

Or just get a drill press and a jig.

Unless the shop has a license to manufacture and some do.

If they have the 07 FFL, then they cannot mill 80% receivers for people without putting on serial numbers, logging it, and doing a background check before transfer. At that point, you lose the benefits of the 80% receiver.

It seems that question comes up pretty regular from very new people.
I know of one shop specifically that requires you to bring your own code and they advertise their services as such.

I agree, problem is many of us don't have the space (renters), funds, or need to purchase expensive tools to do a one time job.
