    Light weight AR parts recommendations

So I started DROS yesterday on a Mag Tactical magnesium alloy lower (extremely lightweight, but still metal, not plastic), and want to make an extremely lightweight featureless build. Something that could be packable, as all my other AR's are a bit overweight for that.

I'm looking for suggestions on a light weight upper and light weight fixed stock with short length of pull. Intended for 150 yards or less, minute of man accuracy. Will be running either irons or a very small red dot. Anyone have experience with this kind of build? Fixed front sight is fine. For under 16" barrels I would need a permanent brake, not flashhider (seems like all the ones I find have a flashhider though so probably have to go 16" so I can swap it myself, don't want to bother dropping it off at a smith). THANKS!

    Here's the lower:

I believe this is the wrong forum for that type of question.

I have a Mag lower in jail too... City Arms East or somewhere else?

http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00DVQDPY8 I have that stock on it's way but have no clue how I'll like it. I'm planning on going 5.45 on mine, pencil barrel if I can find one, 16", no muzzle device, probably a Hammerhead. I'd like a fairly short forend and then a sight all the way out near the end of the barrel, but don't see that much.

I did the same thing as you with building a light weight AR. I used the same lower as well. I went with a BCM light weight upper with light weight 16 inch barrel and added a Midwest Industries handgaurd without rails that is pretty light as well. I would reccomend those parts for a LW build.

BCM has a couple of different lightweight uppers. I've been eyeing their 14.5 " lightweight carbine upper for a while but it seems to be constantly out of stock. The same upper with a mid length gas system is usually available, though. You might want to take a look at that one or something similar.

I'm going with the Ace ARUL-E for the reinforcement where the buffer tube meets the receiver. If the Mag Tac receivers have a weak point, that's the spot.

BCM offers a LW option but so does PSA with their MI gen2 rail.

if I were gonna do the value package route, PSA is pretty hard to beat. If money isn't an obstacle, Daniel Defense also offers LW barrels that you can use to build something lightweight.

What is the weight goal? I'm also trying to trim the weight down on mine, but need an accurate scale to weight it.

How does it reinforce it there? I haven't seen one in person.

I just built a light upper as well. I went with a DD barrel and bolt group, a Hogue FF carbine HG and a simple thread protector.

my lightweight build is in at 6.3 lbs no mag, 14.5 LW BCM .625 barrel pinned, Fortis REV, KAC micro buis, Sopmod Bravo.
I pinned the barrel with an AAC blackout hider which is kind of heavy, i should have went with an extended A2 birdcage.
As for those magnesium lowers, like others have said just like the polymer lowers the area where the buffer tube attaches is a weak point and i wouldn't perform a mortar operation if you need to clear anything. Forged is still much stronger than cast.

result of mortaring a MAG lower.
