MultiCam is currently in use by some units of the U.S. Special Operations Command,[16][17] and some private military contractors.[18] Several members of the U.S. Army's Charlie Company, 2d Battalion, 12th Infantry Regiment were also seen wearing MultiCam when followed by ABC News.[19] The United States Air Force just recently announced that they will be adopting use of MultiCam for some of their uniforms. In early 2010, U.S. Army soldiers in Afghanistan equipped with the Universal Camouflage Pattern[20] adopted MultiCam as their camouflage pattern.

U.S. Army officials have indicated that a variation of MultiCam will be phased in as the official U.S. Army uniform pattern in 2014.[21]

Some local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies also make use of the pattern, including the Drug Enforcement Administration's FAST teams operating in Afghanistan as well as the U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement's Special Reaction Team and the Spokane, Washington Police Department.

The deserts of SoCal are a very small part of the CA climate.

Do you know what the "multi" in "multicam" refers to? It is made to be used in multiple environments.

If you're going to wear a chest rig, worrying about which color scheme is too 'tacticool' is moot.

I was in Afghanistan when MultiCam was just starting to be issued to troops going down range, replacing the ACU pattern gear. The MultiCam gear was not nearly as durable as the older ACU and faded quickly as well after a few washings. After soaking up a good layer of the ubiquitous dust over there I think the ACU pattern actually blended in better. Besides I have a ton on ACU pattern gear I was issued for free… I have a bunch of 5.11 gear in kaki and coyote as well that I use as work cloths in the yard and around the house, very durable.

What we should be talking about is urban camouflage and not singling yourself out as a wacker by the cloths you wear…

Multicam is an intermediate pattern, meaning that it is meant for areas where you have both green foliage and lots of rocky terrain. It also works reasonably well in most other environments, though not as well as patterns developed specifically for those areas. So it works well in deserts, but not as well as actual desert camouflage. It works well in brush, but not as well as brush patterns, etc...

Here in southern California, there are literally dozens of different types of terrain. Look at what is in your area, and pick your camouflage appropriately. Multicam is a decent basic pattern, and will likely work to some extent in most of the areas you are going to be in. Coyote brown, especially when used with other camouflage patterns will also work just fine. And remember, you will often have other pieces of gear over your plate carrier. So you can add more color to your set up based on where and when you are likely to be trying to blend in. I don't mind Multicam, but I have found that around my house, German Tropentarn, or desert flecktarn works better about 10 months of they year, with different green patterns working better during the wet season. I ended up just putting together one tan and one green set up for the two different seasonal color variations, and called it good. Some of the gear on the plate carrier is Multicam, some is coyote. I even have some odds and ends of other stuff on there from time to time. In truth, anything that breaks up your outline will work. The only thing I try to avoid using too much of is the danged UCP, as that gray-green color doesn't seem to blend with anything else on the freakin' planet.

Get Multicam if that's what you like.

$80 delivered in Multicam from SKD with $5 shipping, 15% off (ends tonight at 23:59)

It doesn't seem any more expensive than other bargain chest rigs. Is this a good price or average?

It seems like a great choice considering it is made in the USA... compared to

Side note here, where are some places you can buy pants and a shirt for a good deal online? I have found these to be pretty expensive just about anywhere you go. Anything around 20-25 for pants, and maybe the same for shirt.

OP yes we know there's plenty of Fashion Police on Cal Guns that love criticizing everything other people wear but you need to decide for yourself. You like it buy it! Personally I would go FDE with multicam a close second.

Remember: if you are already too dark for your surrounding it's harder to make it lighter. If you go neutral(tan, FDE, coyote brown) you can always veg up darker. I suggest any of those colors. Does not apply to snow.
