    Yugo SKS SHTF Build

I purchased this 1975 Yugo M59/66 back in 2004 for around $225 out the door iirc. I instantly fell in love with it and wanted to modify it to make it a little more "tactical" but found out the hard way that most of the aftermarket sks parts out there are pretty much crap and wouldn't hold up at all under any sort of combat strain. I decided my goal with this gun was to keep it simple and have a function over fashion mindset. The current specs are as follows:

    Weight empty: 10 lbs.
    Tapco T6 w/ Butt Pad
    Mil Spec M249 Pistol grip
    Magpul AFG1 Fore Grip
    ATI Heatshield
    Murrays Spring Loaded Firing Pin
    Tech Sights T100 w/ M4 Aperture
    3 Point Sling
    Bolt Recoil Buffer

My most recent addition was the Tech Sight T100. After reading many reviews I decided to snatch one up. I got the T100 over the T200 because I wanted to replace the M16A1 sight aperture with an A2/M4 style with the larger "combat" 0-2 side for faster target acquisition. The only thing that concerns me with the sight is the quality of medal they used on the sight body. It's far from mil spec and if the rifle was ever dropped it could be bad. The box says it's made in Taiwan which none of the reviews mentioned but for the price it's pretty good. Might get a chance to test it out tomorrow. Here's a couple pics of the sight after the aperture swap.

This is about how much will need to be shaved if you have a Tapco stock.

I found that the stock and rifle had some slop so I used the soft sides of some stick on velcro to give it a nice tight fit.

Here's a shot of the Tapco grip vs. a Mil Spec M249 SAW grip. The mil spec version is much higher quality, slightly bigger, better thicker plastic, and even has a slightly stippled surface to it. It makes the rifle feel a little higher quality when you pick it up rather than feeling like it has a cheap plastic stock on it.

I used to run Tapco 10 round mags but their doesn't seem to be a good way to carry spare mags due to their shape. I decided to put the old box mag back in and bought a chest rig to hold 280 rounds in stripper clips.

Do they even make 922r parts for the SKS any more?

And of course you had to put a AFG on it.

Just a pet peeve of mine. Dudes put AFGs on everything even though they don't use it for what its meant to do. I saw an AFG on a bolt gun.

I also like it just as the commies intended it to be. But when done up proper, it has a distinct AK look to it. I like it. I need to add one to the collection soon before people panic again and raise prices. Lol

Yeah unfortunately my wood stock got stolen. The wood defiantly looks great but when it come down to shooting feel I like having the pistol grip action.

There isn't much love on this board for bubba'd rifles. It would have been better to keep it all original. However if the rifle works for you that's all that matters.

And that's your opinion. I'm not really worried about ruining the value of a non Russian SKS. I'm making it more comfortable and accurate to shoot rather than have it sit in the safe and look pretty. I have other guns that fit that role.

The Tech Sights are probably the least tactilol part of it. Original SKS sights kinda blow.

I didn't know that upgrading the rear sight was considered "tactical".

Really, your saying removing a bayonet is being tactical? C'mon now bobby give me a break. Your acting like I have laser beams and canted iron sights on here.
