    Ar-15 optics - Need input =)

    Hey fellow Cal Gunners,

I am new to AR's / Auto Riffles.

First purchase was a Armalite SPR Mod1 LE Carbine.

So far, I have only used the irons, but need to get some optics on her

as I am going hog hunting with my bro at the end of the month.

Here are the options that I've been debating on:

1.) Primary Arms, I read somewhere, checked out the reviews and IMO I don't think it's bad. Including mounts and covers should be around $200.
    (Link below)
Quality rifle scopes including LPVO 1-6x, 1-8x variable power, and long-range optics. Primary Arms ACSS reticles, Vortex, Leupold, and more brands.

2.) Eotech 512 w/ free 3x Primary Arms Mag. + Mount included. This runs for $425, but there is a $60 rebate.
    (Link below)

I know the price is double, but I am sure every man out there has an eotech on their "to buy" list.

I would really appreciate your input.

Thank you in advance for your time to help me out!

Since you are new to optics I would recommend you get a PA red dot AND the PA 1-4x to figure how whether you like a nonmagnified optic such as red dots / holographics or variable powered scopes. Many people have switched from a nonmagnified optic to a low powered variable scope.

I'd wait until Black Friday before you buy anything because your going to find deals on all of those.

        Hi Jack!
I've used the eotech holographic before and fell in love with it the first time.
But is the 1-4x PA & the eotech w/ 3x mag. good enought for hog hunting? I am sure we will not be shooting at them farther than 150 yards realistically / 200 yards max ?

with a 3x magnifier, I'd go with a PA RDS, not an EoTech. EOtechs are great for non-magnified work, they are not that great magnified IMHO. If you are going with a 1-4x__ make sure you get a 30mm body. The PA I'd get is http://www.primaryarms.com/Primary-A...3X-p/pac3x.htm Other then that I'd go Leupold VXR or Hog

              Hey Drako,

Thank you. Will look into the 3x compact scope!

For hogs at a distance a 4x is awesome, but if he where to charge you things could get interesting. You may consider 1 o'clock back up irons like the XTI
We manufacture the best night sights, sight installation tools, ghost rings, AR BUIS, shotgun beads, and optic mounts for all your favorite gun brands.

A 1-4x is ok but since most are not a true 1-4 you could loose cross hairs especially at a unconventional shooting stance. A 1-4 with a built in red dot such as the Leupold VX-R Patrol/pig plex will allow you to still see the red dot even if the duplex blacks out. You can even close the front cover if the magnification bothers you on fast moving up close targets. A 1x RDS with a magnifier can get heavy so think about other options. Primary arms makes decent RDS and are fine for most situations, but for serious work or if you where to drop it down the side of a hill or fall off a moving vehicle the first thing that come to mind will be "Damn now I have to go pick it up" instead of "Damn I hope my RDS didn't loose zero and still works"

MunnyShot, I am truly amazed at your input. As a back up just in case the hog would charge at me I was planning on taking my 1911. But I love the link you sent me and I m definitely interested on getting one as a backup now. Thanks for the realistic scenario it helps a lot as well.
