AR Gurus, question about trigger reset UPDATED with fix

    UPDATE, fixed the problem

So after lots of searching I found a couple people who had the exact same problem I had.
Ironically the best thread with the most info I found was from a year old Calguns posting.

My problem was exactly like the one in this link.

Everything was installed corretly, and to troubleshoot I had swapped out multiple pins and componets and could not really figure out what was the actual cause. I was starting to think the sear angles had slowly wore a little and rounded which may be true, but what was the main cause was the triggers disconnector channel was not quite deep enough after measuring and comparing to 2 known good triggers.

So the disco was releasing to early, before the trigger was lined up correctly with the hammer sear.

Armorers have a name for this, disconnector timing. And they usually remedy it by swapping different componets till one works.

But you can also adjust the timing your self my filing a little bit of material off the front bottom nose of the disonnector, the part that rests on the trigger.

Once you file a small amount install and check your reset again. You could eventually go to far and start having it release to late causing to much travel or worse not reseting.

Its a pretty easy fix if anyone ever has this problem. Just do some searching up on Timing of AR Disconnetor, you will find lots of info.

    Link to Helpful Calguns post,

    My original post-
Would it make any sense that replacing a original hammer pin with a KNS Solid hammer pin could cause reset problems?

Particularly the gun firing on trigger reset.

This gun has fired hundreds of rounds with no problems at all. Recently I replaced all my different ARs hammer pins with KNS solid pins after having a factory pin break on my .22lr Upper

And now it is occasionally firing on the reset. The pin fits good, I can't see how it would affect it but I do remember hearing something about Out of spec pins causing that problem.

Any advice would be greatly appreciated. I have the trigger group apart and cannot see anything wrong.

Firing on reset means the hammer is not catching the trigger sear on the way down when the disconnector lets it go. Please confirm the pins are aligned with each other. Also check that the disconnector spring is on correctly.

My guess also the disconnect spring may be upside down.

I'd contact KNS. That's very unsafe.

Also if the trigger is a Geissele, they explicitly recommend against using KNS pins.

            Spring is on right.

The disconnector is catching. When it fires and hold the trigger back it is caught by the disconnect, after letting go of the trigger is when it will fire.

It seems like somehow its a sear and hammer issue but that doesn't make much sense since the gun has shot around 800 rounds with no issues.

My suspicion of the KNS pin is only because it seemed to happen just after putting it in.

But I cannot visualize how a hammer pin could be causing that problem...

I might try and call KNS and just see if they have heard of something similar.

It a stock Trigger from a basic LPK.

But if they recommend against them maybe there is something to it.

                Upside down spring I believe.

If the pin is smaller diameter than the OE, the hammer will not be stable on its axis.
Simply compare pin diameter with a micrometer to verify.
I suspect if the new pin is more than .0005 smaller, potential for malfunction exists depending on how robust the trigger system is.

A caliper will not do, use only a micrometer.

To add to my previous post. I am assuming all other variables have not changed. As mentioned, springs reversed etc..

I had checked the pin and compard it with originals with a caliper, but like you said I would need a micrometer to see if there is any minute difference.

And no other variables have changed, all trigger group springs are the right direction.

I will try and get access to a micrometer.

Pull it apart and make sure the disconector spring did not get dislodged, bent, etc.

A quick check would be to replace the original pins and see if the issue persists. Its fairly easy to do, and you can function test the lower again.
