    M1A / M14 Receivers

Who makes/sells a good quality, but not over priced, M1A/M14 receiver?

Looking at Fulton Armory, just wondering if there was others I should consider before pulling the trigger on one of theirs.

    Thanks.

Well one I would stay away from is SEI. Goggle to see the damage they do to customers they do not like. May want to look for forged like LRB or 7.62

If you want a forged receiver, get an LRB. SEI has forged ones but with the lawsuit they filed against someone that said stuff they did not like on the internet, they won't ever get my money. 7.62mm Firearms builds both forged and cast ones, but search the internet about their quality and you will tend to not consider theirs until they get their quality control issues handled. One of the more reputable M14 gunsmiths, Ted Brown at Shooters Den, will not work or build a rifle with a 7.62mm Firearms receiver.

As far as cast receivers go, the Fulton unit is considered to be more in spec than a Springfield unit. I just had a rifle built with a Fulton receiver. My next build will be with another Fulton receiver.

I built two M14s on LRB receivers. They are really nice...

If you want a high end receiver LRB and SEI are both good to go.

I have read good things about Fulton's most recent cast receiver.

My personal M14s are built on forged Poly Tech receivers taken from complete rifles I purchased locally.

As for the lawsuit, all of you should read this letter from Anthony Croc.

The letter misses the point. Whatever the claimed basis for the suit, the sentiment I read of those who won't do business with them is their decision to sue a customer. That's not sitting well, and it's costing them business, misguided letters from dealers notwithstanding.

I feel the need to disclose I am not addressing the merits of any comments or the complaint at issue, I'm just relating what others say about why SEI got crossed off their list.

Of course, this is just my opinion.

I think that's the point of Croc's letter.

I agreew with H2O Man. Get a Polytech/Norinco and go with that. You get a good receiver, op rod, trigger housing, and other parts. In the long run you may be money ahead to go that route.

Unless you have extra money to burn just get a SA,their cast recvrs have
a good track record, the forged thing is way overrated, a lot of people
think they are getting some magic with them like better accuracy, longevity,
or something else. I once knew a high master shooter type who said he
had well over 20k thru his SA recvr,of course he did replace quite a few barrels.
He shot some incredible groups @ 600 yds from a prone position with just
                          his iron sights. Pete

Cast vs. Forged, forged vs. cast, it wasn't part of my decision making process.

I wanted a receiver that was closest to USGI receivers dimensionally, and that turned out to be the Poly Tech.
