If you're going to use non magnetic ammo at the range, then use Fiocchi brand 7.62x39 ... by far the BEST AK range ammo .... smooth like butter...

A couple places where you can shoot any California legal ammo in the San Diego area:
P2K Range in El Cajon (http://www.p2krange.com/
South Bay Rod and Gun Club (http://www.sbrgc.org/
Any BLM land that allows shooting. (If you pick up your trash/casings)

0 for 3 in my experiences

P2K doesnt have a rifle range

South Bay explicitly forbids steelcase/bimetal jackets (anything magnetic) due to a fire that happened there last summer.

BLM has recently outlawed ALL magnetic ammo, whether is case, core or bimetal jackets. I've been stopped by rangers and had my ammo magnet tested 3 times in the past few months.

So yea, I'm sitting on a bunch of useless ammo.

What are you considering a rifle range? P2K has several lanes out to 100 yards (and 3 lanes for 50 yards).

Odd, my experience has been exactly opposite of yours.
And, your ammo is not "useless" you can easily sell it locally...to me.

Do you have an authoritative source for your "BLM has recently outlawed" statement? (FUD spread by rangers doesn't count.)

              2. The possession or use of any steel jacketed, steel core or armor-piercing ammunition of any caliber. This would include handgun, rifle and shotgun ammunition.

              3. The possession or use of any tracer and/or incendiary ammunition of any caliber.

              4. The possession or use of any explosive or incendiary device, including chemical devices.

              5. The possession or use of any pyrotechnic device not listed under 2-4 above. This includes, but is not limited to, such devices as exploding targets that are detonated when struck by a projectile such as a bullet from a firearm.

              6. The use Chinese Lanterns, Floating Sky Lanterns, Fire Balloons, Acetylene Balloons, or any similar device.

This includes lead-core bi-metal jacket ammo (Wolf, Herters, Tula, Golden Tiger, Brown Bear, etc), as it is technically a steel jacket under the copper.

Basically anything that sticks to a magnet is a violation and subject to fines and/or seizure.

Okay, you're right about BLM land, but still wrong about P2K and SBR&G.
Were you actually looking for a place to shoot or just wanting to complain?

wasnt aware that you could shoot steelcase and bimetal jackets at p2k. that is good to hear.

how was i wrong about south bay? call them tomorrow and ask. i was there literally 1 week ago and the rangemaster inspected my ammo for steel case/steel core. he reiterated "nothing magnetic" is allowed because of a fire blah blah - just like the rangers on blm land told me the week before that.

I shoot M67 all the time.

I've sometimes needed to wait a couple weeks to clean my AKS due to time constraints. Have never found any corrosion from the primers or otherwise.

I also never do the "hot soapy water thing" cleaning process either. Just use normal cleaning products, a toothbrush, elbow grease, and a light application of Rem-Oil in the bore when finished.

I asked about it, this is the response from Don Gussler, club president:

The ammo shot fine, it grouped nicely, but after shooting I noticed that it left some stuff behind.

                          Random brass splinters/shavings

I haven't had this happen with other ammo (Fiocchi, Federal, American Eagle, etc), anyone else experienced this before? It seems especially odd to me being Arsenal ammo in an Arsenal gun.

Any idea how I get the brass streaks off? Is it something I should even care about?

                          -thanks in advance!
