I for one am very optimistic about todays historical decision. I don't think any of us thought that the court would give us carte blanche and say all gun laws are unconstitutional, but the decision is an extremely big step in the right direction. We have to keep going on this though and push it all the way on the state and local levels. We can't give the enemy any time to breathe or regroup and try other strategies. We need to challenge every law that says " you can't " own this or carry that for protection. We need to challenge laws that ban classes of weapons, limit magazine capacity. We all need to get off our collective butts and lobby and petition. Now is our time to strike and finish off the liberal leftists once and for all.

I agree. This is just the hammer and chisel we needed to start chipping away the rest of the nonsense.

I agree with Oldrifle, a small majority (5 to 4 vote) is nerve racking. There's several analysts out there who were expecting a 6-3 or 7-2 vote pro-rights...

There is proof, however, that gun conrol does not work. The handgun ban lasted 32 years but didn't make a difference. Somebody needs to get the statistics.

Next in line, all you Bay Area folks and Chi-town! WOLVERINES!

What are they challenging in the bay area? The handgun ban is dead already, I thought.

As for the ruling, I'm happy but not very excited, its basically what I expected. I'm not at all an expert but I do think I see an opening to challenge the assault weapons ban. Leave the named guns alone for now but argue that the classification system is unconstitutional because banning all weapons with those specific features denies an individuals right to own a whole class of weapons which has legitimate uses.

Anyway, if anything does change its still gonna take a looooong time, so I'm gonna go buy a few more lowers and BBs

You really had to listen to the anti-gun analysts on TV today to truly understand we are living in two different countries. These people are so gleeful because t hey smell an Obama victory and the furtherance of their slow crawl towards totalitarianism. They HATE this decision -- the Constitution is a "living, evolving" document where unstated Abortion rights are clearly in there but the 2nd amendment only means the National Guard.

We cannot rest on our laurels, folks. Challenges to CA silly laws are coming, but think about if the much abused Geo Bush WASN'T president and the last two Justices (who voted for gun rights) had been picked by the OTHER side. Today we'd be staring, dumbfounded, at the computer or newspaper and seeing the end of our sport.

So we literally dodged a bullet today -- and if we don't go out and vote (for the republican, NOT the libertarian or the more correct on the issue Paul guy ) then we will lose this election -- big -- the news is already saying "lamdslide" while polls are very close -- because they want that in our gheads. They kept saying CLinton was beating Bob Dole "by 35 points" they said it over and over again, on the news, on Saturday Night Live -- until people believed it -- and you know what? Without that Perot twit, Clinton would have lost.

These last weeks waiting for this desicion have been nerve wracking. Don't think "we won, it's over" Yeah? The mayor of DC has already said today, "Okay, they can own a handgun -- but NOT A SEMI-AUTO ONe. So it's revolvers for DC residents -- (no "Ban" see?) and there will still be more...

Please, don't let your friends stay home. Vote one issue if you must -- vote to keep the NEXT two supreme court justices on the RIGHT side.

                  FYI:
There are NO GUNSTORES in Washington DC.
So people can't legally buy a handgun now anyway, because out of state stores have to ship to an FFL -- and the Mayor of DC today says they will do "everything they can" to make sure NO GUN STORE gets a zoning license to open up anywhere in DC.

The level of HATE these people reserve for the law abiding, and the sympathy they show to actual criminals, is ASTOUNDING.

Rest assured that if Heller had gone the other way, eery liberal City in the country would have been having complete gun bans today.

so let me get this straight, the ban in DC is over, but the good people of DC cant buy guns because the Mayor doesnt want any gun stores in DC?

I was in DC in August. It was a challenge to find BEER in a store. The grocery stores don't have any.
