    First time shooting 100 yards.

Went with a co-worker to a members only range in Valley Center. With the help of another member I got my scope bore sighted at 25 yards and worked my way to 100 yards. I have never shot with a scope before and definitely not out to 100 yards.

Here is the current configuration of my S&W M&P 15 Sport

Here is my target at 100 yards, 20 rounds all in the circle

I think I did ok for my first time. Now I just need to learn to shoot it right.

I'm yet to venture that far on paper. I can hit the metal targets at 100yds at Angeles shooting range all day long with my 10/22. Furthest I've gone is 50yds on paper.

Yeah I definitely need more trigger time. Was shooting Herter's 62 grain .223

My friend let me shoot a few rounds through his Swiss K31 rifle last weekend. For the third (and final) shot, I figured I give it a go at the steel gong the range had set at 151 yards.

I had the biggest smile on my face when I heard that ding sound after pulling the trigger. The iron sights on that gun are great and the accuracy is amazing.

OP that's a lot better then many people do. With more practice you will be shooting much tighter groups. Herter's is just rebranded Tula and it shoots nice groups out of my wife's Keltec.

exactly, you'll do much better with subsequent trips to the range. i can pretty much guarantee that. you'll look back and say those first groups sucked! and you will....

at 100 yards, it does'nt matter what commercial ammo you use.
                      invest in more trigger time.

Not bad for zeroing a new scope. My targets look similar when zeroing a new scope. It gets way better from here on out.

Shooting is a skill that takes practice, just keep at it.

That gun is capable of 1 inch groups at 100 yards easy, with decent ammo. You will have better results with decent quality brass cased ammo like PMC or Federal. Once you hone your skills with that, try some Match ammo such as Hornady to see what your gun is truly capable of.

Lastly replace the cheap riser/scope rings combo with a decent scope mount. I recommend the Burris PEPR if your on a budget, it possessions the scope right the right hight for a proper cheek weld, and plan just looks nice. If you get the quick detach model you can also get a rear flip up iron sight and go back and forth using that.

Next time let the hand guards rest on a sandbag and use your reaction hand (the hand not on the trigger) to hold the stock near your firing shoulder or use a sock full of dirt or beans under the rear portion of the stock and use your reaction hand to squeeze the dirt/beans filled sock to raise and lower your point of aim. This video will give you an idea of what I'm talking about: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q2pyv3ilBPc
