Was at the range today and the guys ar15 next to me went full auto ?!?!

I was at chabot today teaching a few friends how to shoot when all of a sudden I hear a string of 4 rounds shoot off very rapidly (Full auto rapidly) I turn around to see the look of complete surprise on the guys face. He was in disbelieve of what ha just happend . We ended up taking his ar apart and function checking the trigger and hammer for reset and engagement and everything worked like a normal semi auto rifle . He continued to shoot another 80 rounds before leaving and it never occurred again , what could have caused something like this to have happend???

          Two most likely explanations

          1) malfunction in the fire control group. Possibly installed incorrectly or something is broken

          2) accidental bumpfire

Well... Clearly some kind of sear issue. However.... This is bad mojo... I believe there was talk about this a while back.

Your gun, your trouble. If it accidentally goes into full-auto firing, you can be potentially held responsible criminally...

Manufacturer has nothing to do with it. Like people have already said, trigger group malfunction or incorrectly installed(incorrectly installed springs?), or accidentally bumpfired it.

I had that happen to me I left out the disconnector spring. Found it right away only 3 rounds fired no one noticed and I disassembled and fixed. Could have wound up in jail.

Sounds like incorrectly installed disco spring. Reason I say this is because that has happened to me, but in a AK. Scared that crap out of me!!

                        Disconnector spring.

Always add a second spring inside existing disconnector spring.

                            ^^^^ THIS!!

Nothing more dangerous in the hands of an untrained shooter than a runaway gun. I was wondering how long it would take to see the results of all these "basement AR gunsmiths" errors surfacing on the range and worse...

Guys way smarter than most gun owners designed these weapons to be efficient and reliable. All the Tom foolery that has been done to them in the name of "accessorizing" is surely going to come back and haunt a few people.

When mine did that it was an improperly installed hammer spring.
