Just be prepared to build several, which with a $2,500.00 budget is doable.

I have a question on building your own...
What kind of tools do you need for this? I saw some youtube vids and I sped thru it (cause it was kinda long video) but it looks like you have to spend more money to buy these tools and they don't look like cheap tools.

Maybe if you are looking to build a bunch of AK's but what if you only want 1 or 2...

The SAM7 is probably the best factory AK you are going to get.

OC Armory will sell you one for $1400. You can spend the rest of your budget on optics and accessories. For AKs I think this is the best you are going to get. Spending more money won't get you anything more substantial.

Build one! Sure, you could just buy one for around the same price nowadays, but building one is a great experience, in my opinion. You learn the platform and how it's built, you have a 'closer connection' to it so to speak, and most likely the parts kit you'll be building with came from an actual military rifle!

I just built a Bulgarian AK74 on a NoDak Spud receiver (with help of course) and originally the rifle was a 1987 built in the Arsenal factory (circle 10) in Bulgaria and definitely used by the military before being disassembled for import, albeit not heavily, which is good for me since it was in GREAT shape compared to most parts kits.
