Never bring an M1 to an M14 fight.

The Garand was great in its day, but the M14/M1A has several improvements making it still suitable for the modern day battlefield. You'd need to spend the cost of another M1A just to modernize your Garand.

Get the Scout Squad in Walnut. You'll never look back.

      standard OD 1,800
standard (loaded)? or just with a national match barrel wood stock 2,300

      rounding up on the prices.

the salesman i was talking to said the NM barrel is worth the extra money.

      thanks guys
I thought the full NM model retail price was only $2400? 2300 seems high for only a barrel upgrade. .

My point was that most people aren't going into a battlefield, and those improvements don't mean much when plinking at your local range, for a LOT of extra cost. It's a moot point anyway, since OP already has one.

The loaded model is not the same as the National Match model. Loded has a medium weight NM barrel and a nice 2-stage trigger. Not much else to crow about. You'll wand to upgrade to a Sadlak OP rod almost right away for a smoother action.

The NM has a bedded action and heavier barrel that's worth the $2400++

But for a loaded, $1600-$1800 seems to be market price. Me, I have standard model with walnut and all the military hardware. Mines scoped with a Springfield scope and Sadlak AB mount. I bought all new GI Checkmate mags for the best reliability and I never have FTF/FTEs

Standard models can be had for as low as $1000 but they seem to run right about $1300. Beware one manufactured in the 1980s. Not all but some had a badly squared receiver making it impossible to get a good solid and square scope mount.

            I have a M1A standard w/ synthetic, I would consider trading for a walnut.

I've got a Garand and I still want a M1A. Not the 22" version, but either the 16" Socom or 18" Scout.

They're in stock at the local stores. $1600 for the Socom, $2000 for the Scout.

                I've wanted a .308 semi for a while. Either the M1A, PTR91, or AR10/LR308.
Cabelas has the LR308 for $1069, PTRs online are going for $1000-1200. I'm just having a hard time convincing myself that to drop that $1600 on the Socom.

You might not want this one. There is a 5" crack in the stock on the barrel end and some bubba damage where the previous owner tried to mount something.
I might just inject some gorilla glue in the crack and clamp it, the other damage can be covered by a bipod rail mount, other than that it looks good.

Most reports I have read do report there is an increase in accuracy with these stocks. I have yet to test it. I wanted to change the stock color from black (scary and hot in the summer heat) to a lighter color. Now that I have a decent mount, a good scope, and the stock painted, I can start testing the accuracy. The stock does feel better, more ergonomically comfortable, but heavier.

Heavier, that's what I thought, on the Mosin the weight works well because it helps to balance the rifle and absorb the recoil.
It does feel good in the hands though.

I wouldn't mind one of those for a couple of my Mausers.

lol, thanks for the heads up.

If I get another stock though, I will let you know. I have been thinking about going with walnut, or maybe a synthetic upgrade. I think the JAE 100 gen 2 or 3, I dont know if that counts as a pistol grip though, I dont want to have a BB on it. Need to look into it a bit more, I have just been drooling over them from time to time lately. Dont really know if I can justify that on a standard M1A, it costs as much as the rifle.
