    Can we talk M1As?

Thinking about scooping up a MA9822CA but the $2200 is a hard pill to swallow. Maybe a scout model ($1800-$2000) or is it that much sweeter? I don't want buyers remorse so any informed comments would help.

    Thanks,

What are you looking to do with it?
If it's just for a solid battle rifle and you plan to use iron sights and not get too crazy with it, I'd recommend an M1 Garand instead. 1/3rd the cost, and it does 95% of what an M1A does, if you don't plan on scoping it.
Also, clips are $1 vs $25 magazines.
Don't get me wrong, M1As are fine weapons, especially in CA, but for the price, there are a lot of other things I'd rather have.

I love my scoped M1a -- and it is a tack-driving machine. Keep an eye out -- they come up for sale now and then. I have a standard NM to go along with my heavy-barrel machine. Both shoot great!

New? New-ish? That's a price I could go for! Which model?

@Standard, got the Garand. Just looking to fill my battle rifle bucket list.

OIC. In that case, any M1A is good. Can't really go wrong with a Scout model, since you already have a Garand, it might be a bit more versatile. But the fullsize is dead sexy too.
It would probably come down to price for me. Equal price - Scout. $100 or more less expensive for a full size, I'd get the full size.

I would get a loaded model. If you want to scope it I have had great success with the casm mount that replaces the rear sight. Also, if you scope it you will need a check riser to get any sort of check weld.
Here is my loaded with ior 3x18

              And my other m1a

reason i ask considering picking an m1a up this month. ammo bros currently has both.

                  standard OD 1,800
standard (loaded)? or just with a national match barrel wood stock 2,300

                  rounding up on the prices.

the salesman i was talking to said the NM barrel is worth the extra money.

                  thanks guys

It's worth it to get the loaded but don't pay those prices. They come up for sale on the forums pretty frequently. I paid about $1,400 for mine used 3 years ago.

Go standard 22". 1800 is too much for a standard with a plastic stock. With a walnut stock maybe, but not the plastic one. Get one, they're so much fun!

I'm in the hunt for a standard or loaded as well. Most of the stuff I've seen on gunbroker are the non-ca compliant versions. I don't mind paying a little extra for a LGS.

The rifle I won had a flash hider on it and was not legal in California, so I just asked the seller to remove it before shipping.

I agree with others Bove, depends on what you want to do with the rifle. I have a scout and love it, at the time of purchase I wanted something I could reach out a descent distance 5-6 hundred meters and also have battle rifle. When I do get a chance I will be getting a loaded midel for more bench style shooting. When I bought I joined this forum Firing Line M-14, it's a encyclopedia of information in their. I also see rifles come up for sale all the time. Join the forum and you will not be disappointed. Hope this helps.

I have the loaded model with a walnut stock. Beautiful rifle, and dead accurate.
