The bolt is like a Chinese puzzle . The extractor is held in place by the spring tension of the ejector. The firing pin is held in place by the extractor. These are wear items you should have a parts kit for your bolt.

I'll make the warranty claim but will likely buy a Fulton extractor as well. I'll be switching ammo as well - I figured that all would be well in the world as long as I was using match grade. I guess cheaper milsurp may be the way to go. And that WOULD meet the owner's manual guidelines of using GI spec ammo.
Treelinem14 should have USGI extractors for 25$. I would replace the spring, plunger, and ejector+spring as well.

Springfield should send you a new extractor if you mail them the old broken one.

To change it a 30-06 case in the chamber and then put the ejector and spring in their hole and the extractor plunger spring where it goes. THen push the bolt against the case and that should allow you to line everything up and get the new extractor in.

PS - the firing pin has a slot in the side of it that lines up with the extractor. So if you forget about that and put it back together without it lined up the firing pin will fall out.

Get rid of the muzzle break and install a flash hider. That will fix it all.

This is Ford Pinto mentality at its best i.e. it's better to deal with warranty claims and breakages than to invest a little extra into fixing a component long known to be problematic.

They use 43 grains of 4064 or Reloader 15.

He got a bum extractor from the factory it happens.

with 308 semi's, you should always have a few spare extractors.
