How about some details? What scope are you using, mounts? What are your group sizes now? What ammo?

The Army wasn't teaching NTCH when I was in.

      That's a Marine Corp thing isn't it?

I personally never been formally trained to shoot, but what I meant with the NTCH was the charging handle pulled back to the nose. I dunno if that is the correct way or if anyone teaches it that way, but I found it an easy way to get a repeatable cheek weld at the appropriate distance. After setting the adjustable stock though, I won't have to repeat the NTCH process, as I would naturally mount the gun to that position. It is just a point of reference to me to set the stock so I can naturally mount the gun like that every time.

Being a skeet and trap shooter as well, my gun mount is fairly consistent as I had practiced that a bit.

I don't expect people to pull the charging handle back every time they mount the gun. But if it creates consistency, then by all means - but after practicing the mount a bit, you'll no longer need the point of reference as the body's muscle memory will take over.

I am not the sharpest AR-15 shooter as the way you hold the rifle is alien to me - I am personally more of a .22lr 3 position target shooter. I can shoot dime sized groups out of my CZ452, but give me the best wiz bang AR-15 and I wouldn't be anywhere close to that. Practice makes perfect and it just means I need more practice with the AR platform.

I got a question , What type of sights are on this rifle ? I've said this before . On a AR unless your using a scope cheek weld don't matter . If there's no parelax there's no issue , point and shoot.

EDIT just read the OP again , oops there is a scope involved

I left the cheap rings on it. I took my tasco scope off my 1022. It's a 6-24x40. Instantly, my groups tightened up. My best groups were 1.5inch with some 62gn factory ammo. I tried some 55 and 62. Oddly, the 62 grains grouped better. I figured a 1-9 should like the 55s better, but it didn't.

Anyway, I can finally start playing with some different hand loads to see what this upper likes. I did order some good iron sights and a spotting scope. I figure they would be a good investment as I experiment with different uppers and loads. This whole experience is an eye opener for me. Previously, my only experience was with my 1022. I've always used cheap scopes and never had an issue. Even though this scope is performing well, I don't really trust it. That's why I purchased some good iron sights and the spotting scope. I'll look into purchasing a good scope in the future.

Yeah, I just figured that a 1-9 would like the 55s better. Is that wrong?

                  Thread CR*P alert.

Glad it was the scope OP. A lot cheaper than a new upper.

Primary arms carries some decent priced scopes that might be in your price range. They are not gonna be swarsvskoski(spelling) high dollar scopes but they should be better than a tasco
