    AR15 Pistol Buffer Question

With a 7" pistol upper. Just wondering what weight or which buffer everyone else is using? im using the spikes st-t2 in my full length, and my friend is looking for the proper weight to use on his pistol AR.

Should he get the spikes st-t2 or the st-t1?

    what are you guys running?

I am just using a regular carbine buffer with 5.56 and 6.8.

I have an "H" in mine, 7" barrel, but it depends on your gas port size also. It was a factory built upper and it came with a standard carbine buffer. Runs great on XM193.

I ran Carbine buffer but it was a little too much. I adjusted gas block and took out the weights inside the buffer and molded a lead core that replaced the weights. Its now about H2 weight. I could of just bought one but I had a ton of lead laying around from casting boolits and wanted to try it out. Anyways, shoots great now.

interesting. the one i have now is 3.3oz and the st-t2 is 4.1oz(says the net). is that too much of a weight difference that it would just be worse in my system? or should i just look for the st-t1(lighter) and be happy. not too sure exactly whats a clean cycle. i mean, if its too heavy, what happens? its more recoil or less?

it already has very very litle recoil. but now im just trying to fine tune it

Tune it for the sake of cycling properly, not for recoil.

What do you mean too much? If it cycles reliably, why change it out? Is it for the sake of reducing recoil? Does it make any noticeable difference? Do people just put in a slightly heavier buffer and so on until it won't cycle anymore? I have a 300blk pistol that cycles fine on subsonic and supersonic ammo. I have no reference whether the cycling is harsh or not. I'm incline to leave it as is rather than spend money to fix something that's not broken.

it might cycle reliably but its nice to have a little more control.
I too had an adjustable block on my 7.5" build and after tuning for the load it was night and day.

It was a less violent action and I had an easier time with follow up shots and keeping the sights on target.

The proper ejection pattern is @ 3:30-4:30. From 12:30-3:30 use a heavier buffer 4:30-6:30 use a lighter buffer

In my 7.5 I am running a T2 and in my 10.5 I am running an H3. I figured it would be the other way around but after a few hundred rounds with current set ups they run good. I also did extractor upgrades to both from the get go.
