    H&K PSG-1 Build?

I've been meaning to ask this for awhile, but has nobody built a PSG-1? Are the parts hard to come by or something? With all the other full size HK rifles people are building out here, why no PSG-1? I know by today's standards they aren't too accurate, but I still think they are one of the sexiest rifles ever built.

    discuss.

saw a new barrel for PSG about a year ago for 7-800 ... a genuine trigger group runs 3-400. I have seen butstocks for 500.

It also has a different trunion (seen it for sale only once somewhere), if memory serves me right. spending all this.. you still have to put it on a aftermarket receiver.. I have held a PTR, Cohaire, SW and others.. nothing is as good. BTW PTR was the best out of the after market...

I have never seen a tripod for sale.. scope base/scopes are fairly common.. Once in a while you will see the handguard, not so uncommon..

There are HK smiths out there that have actually crafted PSG and MSG's out, but they too were not cheap.. 6-8K range.

I think MSG-90 is sexier!! I also believe Hk is no match for ANY other company out there ... They simply ROCK! Way ahead of their time ... Would surprise me none if they are the ones that come out with the first commercial "ray gun"

    Good topic ...

In a world of compromises, some people put the bullets in the magazine backwards...

But it doesn't matter, because our gun is on the cover of the Rainbow Six video games. Look how cool that SEAL coming out of the water looks... If you buy a $2,000 SOCOM, you will be that cool of an operator too. And chicks will dig you.

At HK, we stuck a piston on an AR15, just like a bunch of other companies have done, dating back to about 1969. However ours is better, because we refuse to sell it to civillians. Because you suck, and we hate you.

Our XM8 is the greatest rifle ever developed. It may melt, and it doesn't fit any accesories known to man, but that is your fault. If you were a real operator, you would love it. Once again, look at Rainbow Six, that G36 sure is cool isn't it? Yeah, you know you want one.

And by the way, check out our new HK45. We decided that humans don't need to release the magazine with their thumbs. If you were a really manly teutonic operator, you would be able to reach the controls. Plus we've fired 100,000,000 rounds through one with zero malfunctions, and that was while it was buried in a lake of molten lava, on the moon. If you don't believe us, it is because you aren't a real operator.

By the way, our cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns like the G3 and MP5 are the bestest things ever, and totally worth asinine scalpers prices, but note that cheap, mass-produced, stamped sheet metal guns from other countries are commie garbage. Not that it matters, because you're civilians, so we won't sell them to you anyway. Because you suck, and we hate you, but we know you'll be back. We can beat you down like a trailer park wife, but you'll come back, you always do.

    Buy our stuff.

The PSG-1 is still incredibly accurate by today's standards, its just to rare and overpriced for practical application--at least here in the US. Keep in mind these thing run for $10-$17K on gunbroker. There are clone PSG builds that will run $5-$10K depending on quality. There is one guy here on calguns that built one. Check out the 7.62 rifle gallery. It took him a number of years to track down the parts, so yes, parts are VERY hard to come by and very pricey. I've found buttstocks for $500-800, PSG-1 lowers for $400, and the handguards for $400. I think the barrel, handguard, and PSG trunnion are the hardest stuff to get ahold of. Expext to drop serious cash on such a build and expect to spend a lot of time hunting down parts. If ur gonna build one be sure to go all out and do it right!

Parts are rare and very expensive:

              Barrel clone $1K
              handguard $200
              trunion $75
              reciever $210
              side rails HK $100
              scope tabe clone $200
silent close $300 clone $800 HK
              maching bolt carrier $100
              HK tigger pack $800
              HK buttstock $800
              cocking tube clone $150
HK bolt group with correct PSG head $700 - $1300

labor to assemble and paint atleast $2K

              and you still need
              RAddlock $30
              10 round mags $30?
and a scope - correct 6x hensoldt is $2000 new from Germany
              PSG1 A1 Schmidt Bender 3-12x50 is $2500
plus the $350 rings you need to order from France.

Aside from that, I know nothing
              Seriously missing the 80's.....

Theres more PSG-1 clones out there than you may think. F. J. Vollmers did a nice version without a forward assist.

sure vollmer was great if you didint mind not getting your parts back after he did a conversion, or sending him a factory hk91 to have a g3 conversion done (paddle mag, restamp and grenade ring on barrel ) and getting your factory gun back with an FMP bolt and carrier in it, and a converted Full auto to semi trigger pack when you shipped him the gun just the way it was shipped from H&K.

                      no thanks.

Wow you're experiences with them were horrible. Sorry to hear that. I got all my parts back and the only problem I had was it took a lot longer than anticipated.

AFAIK they're no longer in business though, but their conversions do bring high prices on resale.

I have a FMP receiver and SR9TC barrel I"d like to get assembled someday, any recommendations on who does good work Hkfanatic?

is all you need the barrel pressed into the trunnion? or do you need a complete build done?

PM me with the details, i may be able to help at a very affordable rate.

I have 24" JLD heavy barrel just itching to get built! Man, I really want to build this rifle, but lately money has been coming in short.
