Recommend a complete AR

I'm looking to get into the AR platform. I realize it's not the greatest of times at the moment, but considering the circumstances it may also be the perfect time. Recommend me a complete AR for an AR noob. Thanks!

Go out and get yourself a stripped lower..According to the DOJ that is the weapon..As long as you have that, you can get all of the other parts

You cannot go wrong with a Smith & Wesson M&P 15 Sport model as a first quality, reasonably priced AR.

Building it yourself is the best way to go. You can get good quality at a lower price point by putting your own rifle together. Buy a stripped lower, parts kit, stock, and a complete upper and you will be GTG. It is very easy to put these rifles together - there are tons of videos with how to's, guides, and the forum here to provide assistance if you get stuck.

If you want a complete rifle ordered from a LGS then look for the brands you know, Colt, S&W, LMT, Daniel Defense, Noveske, (even look for lesser know brands like Del-Ton), etc. Generally speaking, any of these and numerous others will be fine for your needs.

I'd stay away from the cheaper models as your first AR. Spend the money and get something nice. You can get a cheaper MP and it will work fine, but if you end up like me, the first "cheap" AR I bought, I never touched it again and ended up trading it away. You will buy more than one, so you may as well start with a nicer one. And definitely .223/5.56. If funds permit, buy 1 nice complete ar and 1-2 stripped lowers for future builds.

Get an 80% lower and have her machined to a complete stripped lower. That way you don't have to worry about registration
(Not knowing how is no excuse not to do this. There are a grip of guys on here that would be more than happy to teach a noob all about it. That's how we all learn!)

Then you can get crazy with your-

Eotech, Aimpoint or Trijicon Reflex for 1-300 yards or.. if you want to reach out and touch people.. Trijicon Acog, US Optics, or Leupold
and of course the small stuff, a gas block, barrel nut, piston or gas system, etc.

just get a stripped lower, and wait for parts to be in stock. when you build it yourself, you learn a lot more about it. it's NOT rocket science.

Prices for a quality lower are also high, and availability of said lowers (not to mention all the rest of the parts) also sucks.

Unless you're willing to wait a long time for prices to stabilize (and hope nothing is banned), in which case the complete guns will be cheaper, too, may as well buy something ready to fire now, IMO. The build I just finished cost within $50 of the complete Bushmaster I bought, everything was purchased post-craze. I'm happier with the one I built, of course, but there was no cost savings worth speaking of.

Just be patient and slowly piece it together. Get a lower first and go from there. Inventory sucks right now but you can find parts just have to keep looking. I just completed another AR for a lot less then what people are paying for a S&W MP15 with better quality parts. Good luck
