Buying a gun for me isn't just buying a gun. You need mags, new brushes if it's a new caliber, sling and ammo etc. Otherwise what's the point you can't shoot it or take care of it. When I buy a new gun I'm usually in for an additional 5 mags and 1k to 2k rounds of ammo just to start. Then I rotate and buy more ammo when I see deals. Kind of like dollar cost averaging ammo. I'm guessing others are doing the same with their new purchases plus all the other reasons listed above.

AR's are flying off the shelf, anyone who is buying their first will be stocking up on ammo for it as well. .223 has been somewhat difficult to come across for a while now anyway except online. Luckily I have been buying a box or two whenever I was in the store so I wasn't hurting and I was in Wal Mart today and they had a good amount of .223 and 5.56 So i went ahead and picked up a couple hundred rounds. Ammo will be back, just hope the panic dont shoot up the prices.Comment

A gun without ammo is a very poor club.If you seek peace, prepare for warComment

Hi everyone,
I'm curious what is the rationale for the extreme demand for intermediate cartridges (5.56 mm, etc.) right now? I get the demand for magazines and semi-autos with a possible impending ban but I just don't see their ammo getting banned too. Can anyone explain this? I hope you all enjoy the holidays!

Like having a car w/o gas, its just a paperweight.
Possible future online purchase ban or restrictions/reporting on sales over 1K. Or worse, a ban on "military type" ammo to go with "military type" weapons. After all, this is Cali. Then you have to buy local at higher prices and lesser quantities...oh wait, they are always OOS.
Glad I have a few rounds in the safe.

Went to my Wally World right after work (I get out around 0630). And all they had was brass 7.62x39 and 2 boxes of .22lr. Bought up the .22lr, I was surprised how even that was scarce.Comment
