Is it legal to have a disassembled mini 14 (AssaultWeap) in trunk

OK moving back to CA, I have a mini14, due to a flash hider, its a AW, I would seperate the receiver/barrel assembly from wood stock, and have it in two peices, locked in a tuft box, this is my SHTF box. Can I legally transport on a daily basis. I really dont wanna remove the flash hider. Thanks in advance.

constructive possession comes to mind first if it were ever to be found upon search for any reason, i'm no legal expert tho. is there any reason you are so against removing the flash hider while in CA?

There is no constructive possession when it comes to "Assault Weapons"

But there has been an arrest for a broken assault weapon ala bolt removed

        See here:

        Or google:
        site:calguns.net broken assault weapon

Not worth the risk! IMO Get a Mo-Reaper and be legal.

My initial thought was constructive possession also, thanks for confirming, I figure I would never take it out unless SHTF, and I venture to say I dont really think it matters in such a scenerio.

There is no such thing as constructive possession for AWs. You'd be good (probably) with what you described, but why take the chance?

The easiest things to do is remove the flash hider and replace with muzzle brake or add a bullet button.

BTW CA law is pretty crazy when it comes to what classify a flash suppressor. Many devices called a muzzle break may actually be flash suppressors under our laws and case law

Before you buy one it would be a good idea to post in this thread asking if the one you want is GTG.

I make a magazine lock for the Mini that goes on and off in seconds with a tool (whne you leave the state) and you can run any evil features you want in this wonderful state.

                    1. if you cant prove ownership before the 1999 assault weapons ban, you cant bring it in to the state
                    2. You cant just drive around with guns in your trunk as a permanant fixture.
                    3. Dont do it.

                      1. what? No. an AW is an AW. Even if you could prove you owned it before AW ban, it still needed to be registered as an AW in Ca.

                      2. Why not? Got PC on that?

Even if it's legal, that doesn't mean you won't be arrested for it and have to mount a legal defense that will cost you a few grand. I had a cop get hysterical over what he *thought* was a box of ammo in the front seat. I can't even make this stuff up.

                        YMMV good luck

you cant "register" an AW in CA now when you move here unless you can prove ownership prior to the ban.

FAQ #5 Can assault weapons still be registered?

The assault weapon registration period has ended. The DOJ is no longer accepting assault weapon registration forms.

You can't register AWs here in CA now, period.
