    Psa upper?

Just bought a jd machine stripped lower and looking at the psa Black Friday deals on uppers. Can't decide on the 16" middy chf ss410 for $339 or 16" middy premium for $279? Any opinions? They both appear to be 1:7 and 5.56 chambered. Is the chf stainless worth the extra $60?

    Thanks in advance.

Generally when referring to Stainless barrels on an AR, they are match barrels built to higher tolerances (which "can" mean more prone to failure). In other words... if you want better accuracy but less usable life, that's the barrel to get.

The "premium" version has a chrome lined barrel which means the accuracy "COULD" be less than the non chromed lined stainless barrel... but the chrome lining extends the barrels life as well as makes it easier to clean.

Difference in accuracy is small enough that as a new AR shooter, you wont really be able to tell... you need match ammo to find that difference anyhow.

Go middy premium and buy more ammo.

Keep in mind, everything i said is very general in nature... there are exceptions to everything I stated.

Honestly though, for your first, i'd just pick up the chrome lined. You can build a match rifle later if precision shooting ever becomes your passion.

If precision shooting DOES become your passion, $60 difference in barrels will be the absolute least of your worries.

True. I just wasn't sure, on the psa website it looks like a savings of $120 for the ss410 and only $60 savings on the premium chrome lined. So I figured ask the experts here.

Save your money on the 16" and don't get the stainless

Well this build is for the wife, I asked her and she said she wants black. So that means I have to get the stainless. She is always wrong ; ). Thanks for the quick replies.

The stainless is the black option?

he's trying to say that his wife wants black (the 16" c/l one), and since his wife is always wrong, he must choose the opposite (the SS)

That is what I was trying to say mossyman thank you. However, I know it's best to just buy her what she wants and to be very happy she wants her own AR.

PSA is good to go, just don't expect to get your upper for at least 1 month. And make sure you received everything you ordered, I had a few missing parts on my last order.

I ordered the 16" middy premium today. Still scratching around for a BCG though. Everything I've read indicates that PSA makes good uppers. We will see.

Check Phase 5 Tactical for a BCG.
