NOTE: The Bushmaster/DPMS/Fulton Armory A1/C7 uppers are the black anodized finish, not the XM gray like the NDS lowers.
    M16A1s don't have brass deflectors.

You'll also need a thin barrel with a 1/12 twist. The C7 is simply an M16A2 with an A1 sight/handle and full auto trigger group. It retained the M16A2 barrel, stock, grip, handgaurds and also had the brass deflector.

My bad. The BM/FA uppers are the C7 uppers while the Colt ones from Apex are true A1 uppers. If you're looking for a modern barrel to shoot all weights of ammo, FA makes the pencil barrels in 20" and 16" in a 1:8 twist rate.

EDIT: Suggested the 'Legacy' upper and FA barrels as it's closest to what he is looking for (aside from brass deflector) aesthetically and can handle a wider variety of ammo; there's way more than just M193 out there these days. Hahaha.

Can't wait to see how it turns out. You are going have really cool throwback piece that will garner quite a bit off attention when you take it out shooting.

Green Mountain Barrels makes 20'' A1 barrels with the "original" 1:12 twist rate. As a concession to modern times, those do have M4 feedramps.

I'll have to look into the GM barrels. That's pretty interesting. I knew BM would do M4 cuts in their C7 receivers if you called and ordered them. I'm deciding on a full A1 build with the black NDS lower and triangle or 'prototype' handguards or an 18" RA barrel and the MI SS-12 forend. I think a modern interpetation of the A1 (light, simple, reliable) would be a fun build. D@mn, I have a feeling I'll have to buy 2 lowers when I go to order them... Haha.
