Best weight for an AR trigger job on a bench AR?

I'm talking to a friend about him doing a trigger job on my AR. It is basically a bench rifle. I want something which will get a one-hole group at 100yds.

My trigger, as it stands, is pretty heavy and gritty. At the very least, he is going to clean up the grit. He is also willing to lighten the trigger. I am not going to be buying parts for it at this moment. At present, I just want to use what is already in the rifle.

My question is... what is the best weight? He says he can get it down to 4lbs with the parts already in it. Is that good enough?

If its strictly a bench queen go as light as you want...

Only thing if worry about is your buddy's smithing skills... Even certified smiths scare me when they offer a match grade trigger pull from standard trigger groups..

If you want a serious trigger pull buy a quality aftermarket match trigger and adjust from there.. I don't trust bubbad triggers seen way too many horror stories

If you can't get a 1" group with a 3-4 pound trigger, the problem ain't the trigger.

I've got the Jard 2 lb. adjustable in a couple of my lowers. I bought the 1.5# springs to put in them, haven't gotten to it yet though. Don't know where you're located, if you're anywhere near Tracy/Livermore you're welcome to try it one day.

100 yds. WOA 22" upper, factory Black Hills ammo...

(yeah, yeah...I know, I missed the dot)

Yeah. 5 shots all in one hole... a ragged hole, to be sure, but one hole.

I shoot a WOA upper SDM with a 20 in barrel with a Timney 3lb trigger. It works just fine.

A great trigger is a big part of a accurate rifle. Personally I don't like 2 stage triggers.

What kind of optics or sights when you shot that?

Does it count? You missed the red target.

The point isn't always to hit the exact target. The reason? Well, if the guy can shoot a group that good, it's a minor adjustment to lower his point of impact. By having the point of impact not match the point of aim, he doesn't destroy the thing he's aiming at with bullet holes allowing his point of aim to remain consistent.

Bingo! We have a winner. It was intentional.

Some guys at my range (including me) purposely shoot off of the POA so that we don't have to walk down range to change the target. You shoot a group an inch or two up, move it left, shoot a group, move it down, shoot a group, etc. grouping is all that really matters.

you might want to consider one of these instead.

i have these springs in one of my rifles. so far it works great. i only shoot PMC Bronze. i dont think it will work if your shooting Wolf or Tula ammo.
Been gone too long. It's been 15 to 20 years since i had to shelf my guns. Those early years sucked.
I really miss the good old Pomona Gun Shows.
