Bolt is likely Young Manufacturing. Sounds like the upper was manufactured by FN?

Agreed, you have a 1 in 12 twist FN manufactured "pencil" barrel, and a Young Manufacturing bolt carrier. Can tell you nothing else about the upper without some pictures. Does the upper have a forge mark? Is it a forward assist model? Is it an A2 upper? Does it indeed have a pencil barrel? If you want help in ID of the upper assembly, provide pics. It is like saying "I have this early Chevy. Can someone help ID it. The tires say Goodyear". See what I mean?

The Y/M bolt carrier probably doesn't have forward assist teeth to match a smooth side A1 upper. If so, that's a retro upper made with very nice parts.

Young Manufacturing makes BCG's with and without forward assist notches. FN pencil barrels were made in the 1980's as replacement barrels/upper assemblies, so it is too late for a three pronged flash hider. I can go on, but it is usless without pictures.

Upper receiver is marked "LM"
Front sight base is marked "4 R (crown)" crown symbol.
It does have the teardrop forward assist.

Funny story. It was in a gunshop for $1000. Came back in later and was going for $800. I offered 700 and he took it. I had no idea what anything was, I thought Y/M was yankee hill machine lol. Came with a doublestar arms lower with some sort of phoenix symbol on it, and a worn a1 stock and grip. I know its not entirely correct with having the 3 prong flash hider and a forward assist.

m16a1's were produced in some number with 3 prongs. but you really need to head over to the retro forum at ar15.com They will be able to tell you everything, right now.

LM upper receiver- LAR/Martin Marietta replacement upper receiver for rebuilding M16A1's
FNMI 1/12 twist barrel- replacement barrel for rebuilding M16A1's
teardrop forward assist would be correct, as would triangular handguards
Add a birdcage A1 flashhider to be correct
check and see if upper has A1 or A2 ejection port door
Here is what it should look like. Please ignore wrong lower receiver and fixed magazine. It was built before NoDak Spud was making receivers and before Bullet Buttons.

Thanks for the info. Does have the A1 port, looks just like the rifle pictured except the 3 prong. Perhaps it was switched out or just a custom build? who knows.
