So i toke the easy road out and bought PPT on a AR15 the lower and upper are from Mathewson tool company out of San Jose, not sure about the rest of the build hmm perhaps i should of done some homework before doleing out the cash, but the owner who had many builds for sale said it was a great make, and i dont know any better.

Has anybody had any experience with this manufacture or does anybody own such a model please giv me your comments, i want to know if im getting a good gun, ive heard ROCK RIVER are good as they have gotten orders from the Military and SWAT, Bushmaster ive been told is a good manufacture of AR15 parts, so how does Mathewson tool company stack up.

Also the AR15 i bought is the 7.62mmx39,not the 556-223 which,is the better caliber. Ive been told the 7.62 because of greater penetration through objects/walls etc. though less range, please give me your expert advice. thanks.
Personally, I don't care much for 7.62x39, I prefer either 5.56 or 7.62x51 if you want to go through walls. Also, as a first weapon I would choose one of those calibers.

To C.G, whats your experince with the 7.62x39 what determins which caliber you prefer in what situation are you shooting variouse caliber weapons at the range in the field etc. hunting?

I only ask because, of reading report after repot on the failiures of the 5.55-223 in a battle enviroment wether going through a cinderblock house to hit the enemy, or just hitting the enemy in the open, it fails to deliver a killing blow in many a circumstance. thats what put me off that caliber.

Not that im going to shoot at live targets, i got it for the range. but wanted to know i have something that will be very effective in a defence situationif it ever came about.

I agree that 7.62x39 will penetrate cinder block better than 55 FMJ 5.56; so what. I guess you have to find the enemy in cinder block houses rather than ferro cement; and even third world countries are building in ferro cement a lot nowadays.
If the failures of 5.56 are so pronounced, why do you think that most of the world armies are mostly using a combination of 5.56 and 7.62x51?
In battle environment I would rather shoot the enemy in the guts and let his comrades hear him scream. The point in warfare is not necessarily to kill the enemy, but to incapacitate and demoralize.

As a senior member i would think you would no the history on why that round was adopted by the US military and supplied to lesser militarys around the world, like most weapons or feeds, it was rushed into production and was available at the time, which usually beats out carefull design/planning and devolpment of a cartridge that will be able to do what it is meant to do. im not bashing the caliber but im not the only one singing that it is failing badly ive heard it staright from the combat soilders mouth.

As for your added text about wanting to hear the enemy scream and slow them down buy having to take care of there wounded, well that type of war is not been waged in the citys of iraq its a dog eat dog situtaion over there, there is no defind battle field or enemy military for that matter, they are not fighting us for the goverment of Iraq, instead for there holy god and all that bull**** , and because they just love to hate Americans and westerners in genneral. i dont see them having comradery like in earlier wars thought between well organised goverment sponsered armys. this isent the Som or Dunkirk , me laddy.

I have read that, as you are alluding to, one of the advantages of the .223 round is that is bogs down the opponents resources. A dead enemy is just dead but a .223 wounded enemy requires 2 buddys to stop shooting and drag him off the field, a medic to attend to him, resources to transport him, and a hospital to treat him.

Its all about allocation of resources. You hit it on the head. As for the validity of lethality, usually the only soldiers that complain are the ones not hitting their target. Just think how many folks have been killed with a .22, .25, .32 and those are slow movers too. Ive never seen anyone stand up from a double tap to the chest from a 5.56, but then again, what do I know?

I see you've been chatting with the gun shop clerks again. Seriously they are worse than women at a hair salon. The story of how 5.56 was meant to wound is a myth.
